Starting a PXE boot of a windows unattended installation

Featured Replies

Here's what I want to do.

I have a Unix server (FreeBSD) running Samba which is configured as a WINS server. This machine is also running ISC-BIND and ISC-DHCPD. The DHCP server software does support the BOOTP protocol.

What I want to do is when a workstation on the LAN boots off the network (PXE boot), I want it to load and run a unattended Windows XP installation (Like one of my DVDs, without the DVD). I have done some reading on this, and there was something about creating a boot image for the workstation (A bootable stub?) and a RAM drive. A better way would be to have the machine boot into a menu off the network so you can select different items from a menu such as an option to repair a windows XP installation or to perform an unattended install.

From what I understand, it's possible, but I have no idea how to make this work. Should I have it start the Windows installation from a Windows PE kernel or what?
