Cannot access start menu in Vista 64 bit

I installed the 64 bit version of Vista the other day, and I find that when I click the Start button, nothing happens (I've also tried pressing the Windows key on the keyboard).

However, if I right click on it and change the Properties to Classic Start Menu, it then works fine.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? It's no big deal but it's just annoying more than anything!
