Should i disable Parse of Autoexec.bat. Maybe a silly question but what does this do and in what situations would i want to parse this file or not. How would i know if this is needed in my system or its better to speed up my shutdown process without it?

You may want to disable ParseAutoexec if you do not have any reasons to use the Autoexec.bat file, if you have an old legacy app. that needs to use the autoexec.bat file for some reason (not often the case with Windows XP) then you would enable it.

Check out this site, it has a good discription of the setting: http://www.xptuneup.com/tip0125.htm

look at # 104

when i performed a search on my xp system it did not locate a autoexec.bat file. It found autoexec.nt. Would this have any effect if i disabled the parsing of auotexec.bat. Is this file on my xp system?

Turn on (uncheck the box) "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" in Control Panel > Folder Options > View and you will see the file on your system partition ;)
