please, help! I'm desperate!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I came here because I'm really, really in need of help.

It is a week or so that I'm trying to make my unattended copy of WinXP and I've suffered many errors, even due to some guy from italian forum that uploaded not-functioning CAB files for nLite, but this is another matter.

The point is that there is something really strange with my unattended copies, no matter what I do, and the thing is consuming me, because I feel the need to complete my unattended windows copy so that it won't be a distraction anymore from work and studies.

My problem is that every single unattended copy of windows that I create runs perfectly with Virtual Box but, when I burn the ISO into a CD, then the setup locks at "saving settings" or something similar (I have italian windows XP, and anyway it is just the next-to-last process, just before "deleting installation files" or whatever is in english version).

The blue string that should mark the process (using Win2k-like setup screen) locks approximately at 1/12 and then does not go further, no matter what time passes.

If I reboot my PC, the setup process starts again, but it warns me that "C:\windows\rootsupd.exe" not found (!?!?!), then I press "ok", the setup goes on and this time there is no lock during the "saving settings" step.

One guy told me that it was because I was using a re-writable DVD, but I've tried to burn the ISO at 4x in a CD-R and nothing changed. I've even tried it on another PC, with the same result.

As add-on, I'm using RVM hotfix pack, since the September hotfix pack relased by hwupgrade.it (http://www.divshare.com/download/2047036-bb2) makes my installation to crash.

What is causing this mess? Ryan UpdatePack-2.1.12rc3 ? Or some change to services? Or some file that I've removed from WinXP?

I'm really confused and don't know what to do: please, help!

Start removing things 1 at a time until it works, then you'll know what was breaking it. If you get back to a pure XP installation and it's still failing it's something you're doing, or your media is bad possibly. If you get back to pure, and it does work, start adding things back in, in the same order you removed them, in theory, the LAST thing you add in, which should be the last thing you took out should break it...

Otherwise, I dunno.

I agree get yourself a free copy of virtual PC 2007 learn how to use it & test from Vanilla right through adding update packs then NLiting & driverpacks etc. Saves coasters, btw I think it will take longer a week to fully master UA creations, so don't feel so bad.

Just remember testing is your friend.

Ryan UpdatePack-2.1.12rc3 <-- Is only a PARTIAL pack you still need the actual ryans pack along with this one. See Ryan took a vacation and the pack you integrated is an UPDATE pack that goes along with ryans last pack.

I must admit that I'm mentally tired from this matter: I thought that "update" meant that it was updating the base version of WinXP, not that it was an update for something else! please, could you post the link for RVM base pack? So I won't risk any more misunderstanding...

Thanks.
