msintaller errors and msxml6 update error

i've just tried to windowsupdate

msxml6-KB933579-enu-x86.exe

and get an installation error

i booted and tried to login to live messenger and suddenly get a windows installer error

i am most certainly not running in safe mode

the last update before the failure was security update for xml core services

msxml4-KB936181-enu.exe

everything else was working fine until this

my installer version is 3.1

what do i need to do to correct this

How about starting the service? in services.msc it's listed as msiserver

net start msiserver
