Wrong drive letters assigned after reinstall?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I use dual partition with XP installed on both. I am trying to reinstall one of the partition (main drive) which I would like to keep it as C: drive. However, during windows installation setup, it keeps assigning the other partition as C: and this one to D:.

Once installed, I can't switch the drive letters since they are boot/system drive. I can use it as it is, but I'd rather switch the letters even if it meant reinstalling (which I've done several times already because I tried changing letters in registry).

There's gotta be a way to assign drive letters during the install, right? Please help me???

You have to set that partition as "active" before install if you want it to be the "C:".

Did you do the first dual boot install yourself ? W

You're right, it wasn't installed on active partition. I ended up using partition magic to install it and it's fine now.

Thanks.
