cucolinwin Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 We have a win server 2003 with two network cards. From the server we connect using a vpn client from cisco to another server. When we do that we can NOT RDC to our server because it inherits the remote IP from the vpn connection. We installed an additional NIC. We gave an static IP to connect to our local network. How can we or is there a way to tell the vpn client to use one nic card and leave the other so we can RDC to it? thanks
eyeball Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 are you trying to RDP to the server by name or ip at the point your vpn is connected?
cucolinwin Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 we have tried both. Is there a way to do this? One network card for our LAN and the other for outside? I can configure one with static IP provided by our ISP, but how do I tell the cisco vpn client to use that specific NIC ?thanks
nmX.Memnoch Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 In the Cisco VPN client right click on your connection entry and choose Modify. On the Tranport tab there is an option that says "Allow Local LAN Access". Check that and you should be good. This should allow you to get rid of the 2nd NIC as well.
cucolinwin Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 I know that option nmX. That is why I'm trying to find other ways because that options doesn't work. The VPN client is installed at the server so when we use it we cannot RDC to it. It inherits the host IP and NOT our LAN IP. My co-worker installed a second NIC to see if we can communicate via RDC even when our server is connected using the VPN client. How can we tell the VPN application to use a specific NIC card? Both NIC have static IPs, both are from our LAN. We are behind a firewall, I can set one of the NIC with a static IP from our ISP, but not sure how to tell the VPN client to use that NiC. thanks
nmX.Memnoch Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I'm not sure if there's a way to do that. There aren't any configuration options on the Cisco VPN virtual adapter that gets installed with the client.Question...are y'all using this to connect two sites together?
cucolinwin Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 yes, using this to connect two networks together.
