g83 Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 I use vlite to make a light vista image and it worked perfectly, installed in less than 8 minutes and performs superfast. the problem though is that wmp is unusable, it first gave an error saying missing file wmdrmsdk.dll. i extracted that file from the original vista disk and copied it to windows\system32\ and now wmp runs fine when i open it, but when i try to play any audio file, it crashes giving some weirdass error. when i try video files on the other hand, some files play only the audio and other crash, the video never works. i tried installing codecs and other media players, and audio and video works fine in those players except for wmv files. what could be the problem?another problem is that sidebar wont let me install any new gadgets. i tried both the auto and manual way (where u unzip the gadget into a new .gadget folder, in which case it wont let me create any such folder) similarly it wont let me copy new themes to the resources\themes folder. someone faced similar problems before?
nuhi Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 About WMP, looks like you removed the codecs and left only the program. Nothing else can cause that as far as I know.Never heard about that issue with gadgets, maybe someone else will reply. About the folder vLite doesn't change anything, it could be UAC related, try to turn it on or vice versa.
g83 Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 yea i figured that, i mustv removed something important related to wmp. so after installing codecs from elsewhere i can play audio and video in other players, except for wmv files. as for the gadgets and themes issue, turns out it was some fairly common problem with vista home premium where the os wouldnt let u rename folders, which was causing the themes and gadgets to not install, got a reg fix for that so thats done aswell... now just one more problem. iv got a couple themes installed, but when i check in the display properties > themes it doesnt show the names of all the themes installed, all themes are named either windows aero or window vista basic, even though all themes work perfectly fine. any idea about that?
nuhi Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Nope, haven't played with the themes since I like Aero as it is.
ZeDMaN Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 now just one more problem. iv got a couple themes installed, but when i check in the display properties > themes it doesnt show the names of all the themes installed, all themes are named either windows aero or window vista basic, even though all themes work perfectly fine. any idea about that?Try VistaDeskHack or TuneUp Utilities 2007
