Windows File Sharing: can't access 'root' of computer

Hi - I have a problem with Windows File Sharing; accessing the 'root' of a computer.

I have two computers - pc1 and pc2, both XP Pro.

pc1 can access pc2's folder shares, e.g. \\pc2\SharedDocs

but if trying to access pc2's 'root' (\\pc2), I get an access denied error message.

I've tried all the settings I can think of (no firewall, try just by IP instead of

name, disable/enable file sharing, simple file sharing on/off, check Computer Browser

service is running) to no avail.

Please, does anyone know of a solution?

type 'control userpasswords2' and remove any stored passwords for the LAN. By default, windows xp will use stored passwords and won't prompt you if the password is invalid.

Also try the administrative share, \\pcname\c$

make sure simple file sharing is disabled on both computers

Solved it, but not quite sure how... the only change I can think of that I made was

to go into security tab for C:\, change permissions for 'everyone' to full, then

change them back to nothing. Bizarre.
