xavigne
Hi!I prepared a nLite version of my Dell XP pro (32 bits) sp2 recovery CD (I own a Dell Dimension 9200 - aka XPS 410 - bought in May 2007)The purpose was to have a Recovery OS CD integrating all recent hot fixes of WXP pro, as well as .NET framework 2.0 needed to install ATI catalyst suite. When making my nLite CD, I copied the entire OS CD provided by Dell (containing XP pro with SP2 then); I didn't remove anything from Windows when executing nLite. In my sBIOS configuration, system boots from CD first, then from internal HD in second. No floppy is bootable, and the floppy drive is declared "disabled" (I have none !).However when I boot from my nLite CD to reinstall the OS, I get right at the beginning a message "insert a floppy disk with the SP2 for XP pro in drive A:" as though it couldn't find the SP2 package on the nLite CD...Of course, I have no floppy disk to insert, and I can't go further...Any idea what was wrong in my nLite procedure ? Thanks in advance Edited August 30, 2007 by xavigne
StephenC
You are missing the files from the root of the XP install disc. Some of them are:WIN51WIN51IPWIN51IP.SP2

xavigne
@ StephenC, As promisedI prepared another nLite CD, being careful about its content. This time, the OS reinstal when fine, but I encountered several odd problems afterwards (the system asking for the original CD of XP, or impossibility to run nLite after installing it,...)So I made a clean reinstal using my original Dell CD, then made another nLite CD using the latest beta version of nLite (I don't like to give up...) and did the reinstal of the system once again. This time it seems good and I think I'll be able to keep this nLite CD version as a good one...Thanks again for your help ,take careXavier
xavigne
Hi !Finally I come back on the forum to say that my nLite CD made after a genuine XP pro Dell CD doesn't work fine: I had some issues when trying to install my Office 2003 CD. Quite weird to me: when starting the install, the setup.exe bypasses the screen where one is supposed to type the key of the software, and immediatly after it says that "a wrong key has been entered" and the install stops.I give up this time; I suspect the problem comes from the fact that my XP CD is a Dell one, maybe with some limitations ?If anyone succeeded in making his own nLite XP CD after a genuine Dell CD, please share your experience...I did the whole reinstall directly from the Dell CD, and no trouble so far.
