Hi All,

Why do I sometimes see both of my CPU's at 100%, maximum usage, but when I check my running processes to see what the software hog is, none of the processes are using more than 05 of the CPU column?

Is there another way to see what is using my CPU resources?

Thanks,

Phil

Are you checking the option to show processes from all users? It's on the bottom left of the processes list screen in Task Manager.

PM runs fine on Vista, it will get you the data you are looking for, just make sure to launch it with an administrative account

If you still see 100% with Process Explorer and it still does not show which process is eating CPU then most likely it is a rootkit that is hiding itself. In that case, reformat a few times!!!

Run Process Explorer and see which process is taking up the CPU time. Once you know which one it is, go to the properties of that process and look at the threads tab to get a better idea of which thread in the process is using the CPU time. This information will help us better help you fix this.

vista at idle has 53 processes running. view processes from all users and i think [although i don't use vista myself] there's an option to view all running processes.

its part of aero that makes so many processes i think, although i only emulated a vista beta a while ago, so i don't remember for sure.

i did it at compUSA once to show my parents why i didn't want a new computer out of a box, i didn't want all that.
