Messerschmitt Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Hi.I just installed Daemon tools and due to a problem with an older version where my kaspersky anti-virus detected some kind of infection, I guess it kinda screwed up my add hardware.Daemon is now functional but I have the following problem.Upon startup windows allways detects a CD drive and tries to update it. if you proceed with the update, no matter the options you will get a blue screen of death, saying something about dump memory, etc. I belive this is because it tries to install a hardware which it actualy does not exist. Also I have no yellow or red marks in the device manager, yet everytime I start windows I get the new hardware detection. How can I stop it being identified as new hardware, because obviosly I cannot just do the update and get rid of it since I get the blue screen. After the blue screen once back in windows you could see a virtual CD drive which I removed from computer management - disk management
Zxian Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Boot into safe mode and uninstall Daemon Tools. I'd toss Kaspersky and grab Avast instead. I've had Avast + Daemon Tools running on several systems without any troubles.
SmaugyGrrr Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I have no idea whether this will do anything, but you could try installing this:http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads/I remember reading something about Daemon Tools using an old version or something. I don't think it will do any harm installing & uninstalling it if it doesn't help you at all.

Or you should do it in normal mode and only if you have problems go to safe mode?
Zxian Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Try to do an uninstall with a regular boot up, and then use Safe Mode if that doesn't work. From what I understand, you can't even use Windows when it boots up normally, so Safe Mode is your only alternative.
Messerschmitt Posted August 18, 2007 Author Posted August 18, 2007 (edited) Ok my problem isn't with daemon anymore. The problem was with daemon that upon a faild install now the computer allways tries to set up a DVD called "Generic Stealth, etc". daemon now plays no part in this anymore.Everytime when windows starts the add/remove hardware wizards pops up and no matter what you do, when it will start looking for drivers it will give you the blue screen of death. Not only that, but today I just recived a random blue screen of death even by playing, which was saying something like "Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal".This can only get me thinking at this stealth drive which is being tried to install. What are my options now?I tried to uninstall the device, and it gets rid of it, but at the next boot, it will be there again.I found my error here, but as ususal, microsoft tells you something evident but it dosen't tell you any actions to fix it. Zxian Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Have you tried cancelling the hardware installation?I still think the problem is with Daemon Tools. When you installed DT, it puts a virtual DVD drive into your system, which Windows treats as hardware. Since something went wrong with your initial Daemon Tools setup, Windows can't properly install this "device".Since there seems to be something not quite right between Kaspersky and Daemon Tools, try the following from safe mode.Uninstall Kaspersky.Install Daemon Tools. Reboot into regular windows and let Windows detect the new "hardware". If it installs correctly, great.Install Kaspersky again. This is usually why software installers recommend that you disable your security software when installing the program. My guess is that Kaspersky blocked that one necessary file, and now the system crashes when it's trying to find it.
