jeff.sadowski
I am trying to install win2k3r2 on some hp dl140 g3 servers with LSI sas raid controllers. The machines come with driver cd's but win2k3r2 only supports installing drivers using a floppy. This machine doesn't have a floppy or a floppy controller. When I tryed using extra drivers it complainedabout not having a floppy. I tried using a sony usb floppy (I had to restart for windows to see it) nowwindows first asks to insert a floppy with the drivers so I do that then windows gives the error message "the file txtsetup.oem could not be found" (it is on the root of the floppy filesystem)ugg why is windows installer still in the dark ages and not supporting anything other than a floppy to install drivers. Is there a way to install that I am missing?Maybe I need to do a network install? Are there docs on how to do this? nmX.Memnoch
The Search function is a wonderful thing. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=82711The USB floppy drive you're using isn't natively supported by setup. That thread will tell you how to add support into setup...and do it directly from the floppy drive!
jeff.sadowski
While that method might work (I'll have to try it out sometime)My co worker came up with an alternate method that others might find useful. (like if you don't have a usb floppy)there is a program called Nlite http://www.nliteos.com/that he used to insert the scsi drivers onto the windows iso and burned the cd with those drivers.I was impressed that nlite was able to produce a bootable iso image with the drivers. He used another program to copy the original win2k3r2 cd into an iso. Many programs can do this.I'd get it using dd in linux.I suggest people try the other way. Given that I am not 100% sure as to the legitimacy of themethod I mention. But if all else fails I offer another way.The reason I say this is that this is modifying the windows install disk.(we use to do this all the time when installing old MS OSs)Microsoft might have an issue with this now. But I really didn't find the other way till after I installed it this way.Nlite itself should be legal; the question is if what it produces is. nmX.Memnoch
Hehe...I'm glad you found a way...but seriously, the Search does wonders.http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=89nLite was mostly created from suggestions, requests and questions from the MSFN community. jeff.sadowski
Hehe...I'm glad you found a way...but seriously, the Search does wonders.http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=89nLite was mostly created from suggestions, requests and questions from the MSFN community. Help on where to search? All I see is a generic google search up top that it doesn't feel like the forum on any page it takes me to.IE I can't post a new question to help get clearification.I searched for ["the file txtsetup.oem could not be found" usb floppy] this didn't show anything I would consider relevant. I didn't come across the post you mentioned even. Also like I said any page from the search did not come up as a forum page that I could post to.I see from the nlite page a lot of posts on here :-)
nmX.Memnoch
Too many arrows? That's the built in search function for the forum. You probably searched on too many terms. I believe I simply searched for "windows setup usb floppy" or something to that effect.
jeff.sadowski
I totally missed that search button actually I came up with close to none because of my quoted query. I needed a topic that had in it that exact error message.I figured thats how I search for errors from the get go I might as well try it on this forum. I missed the search button and only saw the google search option I'll see if that makes a difference.
