Iso file only getting bigger?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, i'm new here, and this will be my first post, so go a bit easy on me :P.

I really would like to try out Vlite, but im having a problem, i've searched on the forum and googled a bit, but i really couldnt find anything.

It looks that The iso file coming out of Vlite is larger then the original DVD of vista?.

So when i click "make iso" i can see the file being 3.8 gb large.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what am i doing wrong here :blushing:

I presume it's 64bit.

It can be that you integrated some drivers and on Apply chose the first method, that one just adds the changes to the image.

If you use Apply 2nd method it will separate your selected image and it will be a lot smaller, if you remove something of course.

Worst case scenario you are using Vista files from the drive root and it copies other folders as well.

Hi, no its 32 bit, dont know if that changes anything.

I tried it al over again yesterday, and this time is choose the second apply option, this time the files were about 2.3 gb large.

But it isnt a iso file. just some files, very similar to the oiginal disk.

Do i burn those files to a dvd?, or do i have to make a iso file out of those files, and burn that to the disk?

Sorry for asking stupid questions, but i tried it for 10 times now and still i cant get it to work.

Hi, dont really know why it gets to 3.8 gb

But i do know that i dont have an normal version of DVD, my dad works for Dell, and he gave me an unattendent version of vista ultimate.

Maybe thats part of my problem?

Could be. There is no way I can get that Windows to check.

Did you try it after the modifications, you can make the ISO and test in the virtual machines.

Use the 2nd apply method and it should be smaller with more removed but only remove what you don't need.

Also you didn't say what is the original size of that folder before vlite?

well the DVD is about 3.6 gb.

After some trying i finally got the iso file burned to a dvd, but it doesn't boot from it?.

It justs starts vista normally.

Any suggestion?

edit: never mind, it works now.

Thanxs for the help, ohw and Great work your doing.

Ok.

Then it wasn't anything weird. ISO is getting bigger with the first apply method because it just adds the changes. I thought that it grew from 2.6GB (normal 32bit size) to the 3.8GB, that would be weird.

Hi, me again :blushing: .

So i finally managed to make a bootable dvd with my own copy of vista :thumbup .

But during setup, after all the files are unpacked and installed, it just stops, and gives me an error.

Didnt had a change to read it, as i was afk, and just saw the message and then the pc rebooted.

I removed al lot services and components, but non of the red marked, and i left some services here and there.

Any change i removed some critical services?.

It's probably some custom Dell addition.

Try the new version once out on Monday then let me know if it still fails then we'll debug.

Hey, ive just made another image, and tried to install it on a virtual machine, and it gave the same error, i think is has something to do with my disk being an unatended one.

Error message original (dutch ): Kan de instellingen voor installatie zonder toezicht tijdens fase (null) niet toepassen

"installatie zonder toezicht" means something like this: installation without watching/doing anything.

Any idea's , or do i simply need an retail version of vista?

Try without unattended then (or simply delete autounattend.xml from the folder root before making ISO).

Hey, well i got it to work.

But i still have a question, when i load the iso in the virtual machine, vista takes 270 mb memory and 235 mb pagefile, but when i installed the iso onto my own machine, it still takes about 480 mb and 437 mb pagefile?.

Any idea why this is?

That means that you gave your Virtual machine less memory.

Vista, and any Windows in that regard, use more memory if it's available (certain percentage of total). That is why with more memory Windows feels faster, smoother.
