Unr3a1 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I am trying to install an application for my business on my Vista Business machine, and it is saying that it requires the MDAC 2.8. I download the installer for MDAC 2.8, and it does nothing. I looked online, and saw that Vista comes with WDAC which is supposed to emulate MDAC, but obviously, it is not working. What can I do?
cluberti Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 You have to remember that there are quite a few .dll files for MDAC that are not included in Vista, as they are deprecated. I would strongly suggest running process monitor from sysinternals while trying to launch your application, and see if perhaps it is simply not finding a .dll file (or multiple .dll files) that you could simply copy to Vista and register. This is usually the case in these scenarios, although I would state that getting a Vista-compatible version of the app is a better long-term solution.
Unr3a1 Posted July 30, 2007 Author Posted July 30, 2007 I have a process monitor, but it is not from sysinternals. Vista has a built in process monitor?
cluberti Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 No, you will need to use process monitor from sysinternals (or another tool, if you have one).
mikesw Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) Be aware there is MDAC 2.81 plus service packs. Not sure if it works on VISTA but doesinstall on XP.If you wanted to determine which MDAC version best matches your version, plus shows whichfiles are missing or the wrong version, then get "component checker" from MSoft. Vista contains WDAC 6.0, which is a superset of MDAC.
