  1. In XP Pro I had no problem setting up a Workgroup without a Domain. In Win 7 Pro, Win 7 refuses to allow a non-domain workgroup to be set up as a Home computer; it forces the system into a Business Network ID. Very frustrating, as I cannot get full access of all normal files and folders from system to system on a simple 2 system Windows 7 Pro network. Is there a step by step set of directions from some source to accomplish this. In Win 7 RC (Ultimate) I was able to do this with no problem. The accessibility issue began when I installed the licensed Win 7 Pros. Also, if there are any settings which would prevent this type of access. BTW, I despise the new "HOMEGROUP" system; it does not allow full access to all normal folders and files in User settings or other HD folders. This is a real pain when I have to sync files and folders from desktop to laptop for off-site use, or for normal backups from system to system. Thanks, John

  3. I have 2 systems on Diskeeper 2007 Pro Premier v. 11. It is totally marvelous. I had spent entire nights trying to defrag an XP Pro laptop with 15gig left on a 60gig hd, only to find it locked up in the morning. Just using DK in trial mode (fully functioning), DK 1st told me I was very short of a proper MFT file setting. After enlarging the MFT setting, it has seamlessly kept my HD in tiptop condition, speeding up the system considerably, also using the I-FAAST. No scheduling is necessary, since DK seldom even bothers the using of other apps. I was able to get the best price on the Diskeeper 2007 Pro Premier from Provantage. DK is a pricey utility, but as is often the case, an excellent utility is worth its price to overcome a Microsoft OS weakness.
  4. Suddenly my system has begun to create shorcuts with the Create Shortcut dlg to default as SEARCH rather than OPEN. How can I fix this? What might have I done to cause the problem? Thanks in advance for an answer, John
  5. To somehow disable My Documents is the immediate desire why I joined the forum. I would like no app, such as Adobe Acrobat, to look first at a My Documents folder option to save something. I am an old DOS man, and save almost all data in individual Directory trees of my choice, on the hard drive of my choice. To me, My Documents is a constant bothering intrusion into my choices. I do use FileEx, an excellent add-on to Explorer, and that helps a lot, but there are still always the exceptions that first try a My Documents solution. Does anyone know how to turn it off, except for absolutely necessary things?
