I was sure, but I did manage to get around this error by installing Windows 98, then using the automated disk I made. I had previously tried this, but I couldn't find my Windows 98 CD KEY, and at 3:33 in the morning while sweating and searching in the attic, I found it.

It's a new hard drive. I never installed it here, the old one crapped out on me, and this happened to me on the old one before it crapped out. I just need it to install once, but I can't get it to go past the part where I hit enter (after sticking in the Windows 98 cd, when the XP install asks for it), because the computer wont let the keyboard work during this step.

When I get to the setup point and have to hit enter, my keyboard won't let me. It's not a disk scratch, pirated copy, bad hard drive, or bad keyboard (in fact I've tried other CD's and other keyboards, even usb keyboards). So this is the whole reason I went about to make an automated CD; it went all good until it wanted me to put in my old version of windows and push enter. It will not, absolutely WON'T, let me hit enter. Please help me find the right direction for the upgrade version. Otherwise every time I install XP I have to painfully format, then install windows 98, then begin installing xp, format, and continue. And that is if it works (I'm still waiting for it to format pre-windows 98).
