  1. hey all.

I want Windows 7 to install the Programdata and the user folder to two different partitions (C: Win7, E: User, D: Programmdata). Is that possible in any way?

ProfilesDirectoryThe ProfilesDirectory setting specifies the path to the user profile folder.

    Caution:

This setting should be used only in a test environment. If you change the default location of the user-profile directories or program-data folders to a volume other than the system volume, you cannot service your image. Any updates, fixes, or service packs will not be applied to the installation.

For a list of known issues with this setting, see Description of known issues with the FolderLocation settings..

Using this setting to redirect folders to a drive other than the system volume blocks upgrades. Using ProfilesDirectory to point to a directory that is not the system volume will block SKU edition upgrades and upgrades to future versions of Windows®. For example, if you use Windows 7 Home Premium with ProfilesDirectory set to D:\, you will not be able to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate or to the next version of Windows. The servicing stack does not handle cross-volume transactions, and it blocks upgrades.

Use this setting to move the user-profile folder (typically %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users) to another location during Setup or when Sysprep is running. The destination path can be on a volume other than the system drive, as long as it meets the following requirements:

It must be on an NTFS volume.

It must not be the path of another operating system user-profile folder.

It must not contain any serviceable components.

This setting can be used to keep system data separate from user data. If Windows® is re-installed on the system volume, a user with administrative rights can manually recover data from this location.

    ValuesPath_to_profiles_directory

Specifies the path to the user profile folder. Path_to_profiles_directory is a string with a maximum length of 256 characters.

This string type does not support empty elements. Do not create an empty value for this setting.

XML ExampleThe following XML example shows how to set the paths to folder locations.

    <FolderLocations>

    <ProfilesDirectory>%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Profiles</ProfilesDirectory>

    <ProgramData>%SYSTEMDRIVE%\ProgramData</ProgramData>

    </FolderLocations>

This is from AIK help, so it is possible, but (read above) :-)

I have this in autounattend.xml and that is working. Filled under OOBE pass. Gadgets i copy straight to wim in place showed above :-)

  4. I use vLite on removing lang Korean, Chinese, simplified chinese, Vietnamese, this is about 2GiB. Then i remove all drivers because i integrate my own. Also remove natural language, tablet PC, speech recognition. Dont mess with network and tweaks! Can remove media center + default image samples. Integrating drivers is safe and in my tests always works. Tested on 70xx to 7229. I do only x64 version, after vLite image install.wim has about 1.8 GiB.

    Hope this little help :-)

I always install from USB, dont use DVD about a year.

  5. Your machine support 64bit instructions for sure. Has Core2Duo processor. So it is not "x86" machine. You need 64bit compatible operating system to slipstream Vista 64bit. It is needed for integration of hotfixes and language files, not needed for drivers integration and components removal. Cheers :-)

  6. extracted iso x:\Vista DVD\sources\$OEMS$

    -$$ = %windir% = x:\Windows (x is your boot drive with windows instalation)

-$Docs\All users\Desktop = there you can put your files, after install it will be on desktop

-$Docs\All users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup = can put shortcut pointing on command file which is run after first load of desktop (import tweaks)

-$Progs = equivalent to Program Files

    Hope this little help :-)

  7. I now have 4 gigs of ram and want use it all. I install Vista x64 Business and SP1 pre RC x64 release 7 november 2007 (newest at this time). Installing SP1 takes about a hour. After tuning and turning off some not needed services i am very satisfied with performance and smoothness of this thing. Not have any problems. Install beta drivers without any issues. And as i see, game industry is slowly begin support x64 platforms (Crysis, Hell Gate: London, ...). So i stick with x64 forever :-). Cheers.

And to Nuhi, i have strong hope you find a way to integrate SP1.

  8. Try search on RyanVM site for switchless installers and addons. Also try Universal Silent switch finder, which help find switches for unattended instalations. And then, USE WPI (windows post installer) from Siginet. Its absolutly ROCKS and must have tool for unattended windows creation. Has many options, important is: can import reg file before instalation and after instalation. I install required programs manualy, then searching registry or key files i export stuff to main APPS folder in appropiate app folder.

    - [PowerDVD]

    + pdvd.exe

    + pdvd.reg

    - [iE7]

    + ie7.exe

    - and so on

Then make changes in WPI and you are done. It worked for me many times. I hope this little help you. Cheers.

  9. I try Home Premium, everything possible removed except Defender, and have 1.2 GB iso. Premium because i much like Aero. (Purchased PX7950 GT 512MB which is Vista native capable). On other hand, vLite is working fine. Thanks nuhi for this. Anyway, needed much more removed, in nLite iso without Bashrat drivers has 134MB. I know, its long way to achieve this, but who knows? !!!THANKS!!! :hello:
