I seemed to have tried every possible fix w/ no success. Here's my issue... Upon uninstalling an application from the Remove dialog, I cannot then remove another app until I restart my pc. If I don't restart, I receive the error about no installer could be found, do you want to delete the entry from the list, etc.... It appears I have no problems installing applications. ---------------- Scott

I assume my PC should allow a scheduled task to 'wake' my PC on command, but it does not work. It works on another PC I have access to and cannot figure out what is wrong. I have Hibernation enabled and have the wake PC on activating task enabled. What am I missing?

The automatic sync with server is not working...it indicates an error occured, but no detailed explanation. This occurs with firewalls turned off. Any suggestions?

I want to setup a media center network (PC-> Media Center Device-> TV) and would like to know if there is a preference I should follow in determining the network. Is 802.11g good enough to stream video from my pc to a tv in a different room of my house? If so, would 802.11b be sufficient? Would I see any visable difference/increase in the quality/performance using a wired 100Mbps network?

Xp has an option for choosing which application you want to open the media in for all cd and removable drives. My problem is that I do not get that menu anylonger. My removable drive does show up in explorer but no chance to select which application to use... I have tried MS Autofix...no help. I guess my question is, where in the registry might I make changes?

Should I 'Reboot' the remote comp from within a remote connection session, I can no longer re-logon to the remote comp after the restart. The logon screen appears for me to enter my User account and password and seems to start logging on, after a few seconds, instead of logging on, I see a Logging off message and the session auto-closes. Is there a possible security setting in XP or my ZAP program that might be disallowing a remote inital connection?

I have tried that w/o success. I receive basically the same error message and again, I have troubles uninstalling other app's that I were installed using the installer.

It appears that my Windows Installer may be corrupt. Issues I'm having: Uninstall not locating the uninstall log Problems updating Office 2003 and cannot do a repair of. How can I replace the Windows Installer? (note: I have tried a Win XP SP1a slipstreamed repair) Should I have the windows file protection disabled during unregistering/renaming of the windows installer files and where can I obtain the original/new files? Thanks.

Something else...what is the point of having the alternate netwrok config? The only way, in my situation, it appears that it would be helpful is if I created 2 sep. static ip configs, however, that doesn't leave me any flexibility outside those 2 locations. Oh well, at least I don't have to keep changing the ip every time I connect to a different network. I think what would make it more useful is if I could map a domain to the alternate network config, that way, my office dhcp would simply bypass the initial dynamic config and take the alternate-static settings.
-
Justice- pardon my babble, but that is what I anticipated as one of the options...thank you. XtremeMaC- the issue with setting only a static ip is that I would need that static ip no matter the network I would connect to, whether that was at the office, home, client, etc. and I would rather have more flexibility. Regarding the script...is there anyway to have the script run automatically when coming out of hibernation? I realize I could simply create a desktop icon or have it mapped to a keyboard button though.
-
Thanks for the reply, though I know there is an ip that can be reserved for me...when you say reserve an ip for me, are you referring to a fixed ip on the server? If not, please explain. If I should set my initial ip (static) in my network connections, the alternate config disappears and I have tried placing the static ip into the Alternate config itself and when I boot to the domain, my system still wants to search (dhcp) for and provide me a dynamic ip.

My situation...I want to connect to my office domain and my home workgroup with my laptop w/o changing the settings. Answer, TCP/IP Alternative Network Config...however, I have another issue- My office domain is a dhcp, therefor, no static ip's are truly used. I want a static ip because I often leave my laptop at the office and simply hibernate it. The problem is if I do not have a static ip, it's possible another comp/laptop in the office will be assigned the ip address my laptop had on its previous network connection and when my comp goes into hibernation, that ip is thrown back into the pool. Then, when I bring my laptop out of hibernation, there's no connection. So, what AUTOMATIC, or semi-automatic alternatives do I have...this is my list: 1. release/refresh the ip of the client each time this occurs by script (I wish I knew how to generate). 2. utilize a fixed ip on the server side for my laptop's ethernet mac address. Is there anything else on the client (laptop) side that may work?

Say, I have an Explorer Bar called Research that I like to use for reference, etc. on my home computer. I would like to add it to my laptop though I cannot figure out where it came from...anyone know where I may find this Explorer Bar? The bar references MS Money, Encarta, etc. though installing MS Money does not create this new Explorer Bar for me. ------------- Thanks, Scott

rik- I have not; not a big enough issue to do a restore, besides, not all reg keys are updated, etc. even with a system state backup/restore. Thank you though.

Though I have ran ad-aware, it still occurs. Thank you.

Ya, I have done that ... no change.

Recently, my computer wants to change this setting to allow applications to steal focus. I will make the change in TweakUI, after a comp restart though, it is reset. I have now resorted to running a script upon startup to import the proper setting into the Reg ... in 5-6 locations. Is there a easier way to fix this issue? What would cause this to happen? Thanks, Scott

I recently was 'infected' by lop.com (not a virus)- it replaces your default search methods, etc. Ever since it installed itself and after I uninstalled it, I cannot execute a search from my address bar. I will go into my Internet Options and make the proper adjustment in 'Search from the Address Bar', close the dialog and reopen a new MSIE ... same result and it resets itself to not search from address bar. Any thoughts? There must be a place in the Reg to make this adjustment if nothing else. Scott

Thanks, though not a big deal, I did try that ... non DAT file reference listed to change. Scott

Is there any way to 'hack' the system tray in order to show the date along side the time when the bar is on 1 level? At least, is there a low memory app out there that will present the date next to the time in the tray. Scott

How do you change the icon of a dat file, for which has no program directly associated to it? Presently, it has the Windows Media icon. Scott

Is there any way to determine a programs parameters? I have this syncing app that I must open and click on the Sync button in order for it to sync. There must be a way to execute a sync via command line or other (w/o having to run a macro, though that may be the only way). Scott

Is it possible to connect to a Win2k PC Anywhere Host computer utilizing the built-in Terminal Services function of XP w/o the need to install PC Anywhere Remote onto the XP computer? Thanks, Scott cableghost@hotmail.com
