Ok would the mail server idea should work on Windows 2000.. What about for Windows 2003 Server... I actually had the mail server up and the associated dummy email accounts setup but when I configured the mail account on outlook I kept getting an error stating either it couldnt find the mail server or smtp connection or something like that

To Whom It May Concern, I am creating a test email environment on my laptop and I would like to configure outlook to use my local machine (local host) as the mail server so that I may send email back and forth using a fictitious email account. Is that at all possible and is it as simple as placing the host name in the mail server field?
