Hi, We have a bunch of non-domain machines. How can I set the power management properties for everyone on the machine, not just the current user. Thanks, Greg

Hi, I am looking for a way to modify Windows after the install. We have machines which are non-domain machines. We need to somehow make an MSI or installer to remove items. I've tried using Wininstall with no luck, it only looks for additions. I want to be able to easily remove the following by running a script or MSI. For example Remove all games modifying start menu lock down certain items etc etc Thanks, Greg

Does anyone have a list and description of all the values I can use for the components field? I want to use sysocmgr to remove some components after the install by using a components txt file. Thanks, Greg

Hi All, I need some help. I work for a automobile parts manufacturer. It is policy that the computers on the assembly line are non-domain computers. Throughout the rest of the plant I manage everything with Group Policy. What is the best way to manage the non-domain machines. Is it possible to somehow apply GPO's to a local machine by copying a file somehow? Thanks for any advice in advance. Greg

Where can we download this from? Is it available for MSDN subscribers?

Dell Latitude D610 "driver irql not less or equal" Error
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in The General Stuff
I loaded the ATI Radeon 300 video driver from Dell's website and it fixed the issue. How do I incorporate this driver into the install now and remove the ATI version of the driver? -
Is there an easy way to omit the software app that installs for a particular video card when using the driverpacks? I only want the drivers. I tend to have some issues in this area with error messages etc. Thanks, Greg

Hi, I am currently using RIS and the driverpacks for deployment. We just received in some new Dell Latitude D610 laptops. We have had these in the past but this model apparently has some hardware differences. I am experiencing the following problem. When the system is put into standby and the machine comes out of standby the machine will blue screen. The text on the screen is only displayed for a split second, I can only read the following. "driver irql not less or equal". I tried another unit with the same result. Am I missing a driver or something? Device Manager looks fine. Thanks, Greg

We have a Helpdesk system we are looking at. It doesn't have built in Active Directory or LDAP services but will work with SQL. We want to use the AD accounts with the Helpdesk system for the user accounts. Is it possible to do some sort of replication or SQL lookup of some sort? Thanks, Greg

Can anyone recommend a low cost Helpdesk software. I have been given the task to find an affordable Helpdesk solution for our company. Currently we are using a custom designed Lotus Notes database and quite frankly it sucks. We only have a few requirements. Must be web based Must use Active Directory accounts Must have escalation procedures. For example user requests to buy a laptop, manager receives an e-mail after the desktop tech requests approval, manager logs into system and approves requests. I have used Magic, Remedy, Vantive and a few others in the past, I don't consider them low cost options. It's for a small environment, 500 or so employees. Thanks, Greg Atlanta

Hi All, My work is requiring everyone in our Network IT Department to take a C#programming class. We started today with the class. I have zero programming experience aside from some lite HTML, Javascript and very minor stuff with VBS modifications. Can anyone recommend a good starting point, FAQ etc that gives me the basics and the most commonly used commands etc. The work labs in the book already assumed you knew some programming. Any advice is appreciated, book reccommendations etc. Thanks, Greg

Where are you placing the runonceex.cmd file? Also can you list the contents of your cleanup.cmd file?

I have a few more questions. I have RIS up and running smoothly now with the Autoris app. Big kudos to all that have helped me.. What is causing the Windows login screen to clear out the username field? This would be a nightmare for my users. My users can't remember which day it is much less the login name. Does anyone have a list of what I can put in the [components] field? I tried searching google with no luck. So far everything is going great. I have a selectable OU menu I created by editing custom.osc. How can I add MSI install packages to run automatically after the image is complete. Maybe I should do this through group policy.. I have the autoogin working fine now with a domain account. I am assuming after it logs in one time this is removed in the registry.. How can I incorporate one image/wallpaper for all users? Thanks, Greg

Hi Guys, I had a few more questions, I'm still getting the unable to change administrator password error. Why is it trying to change the password? I don't see this in the 500_settings.ini file? Also where do I placed the ntregopt file? Can I just dump it in the i386 directory? If not how I do get it into the c:\windows directory. If I don't want the post script package to run the VPN or VMware tools package where can I rem this out or remove it? Can I just rem out the VPN section for example? Thanks, Greg

AutoRIS Help Needed with Driverpacks
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
Finally!! Somewhat of a success. Ran into a few issues listed below. I entered the local admin password into the .SIF file but I encountered this error. Setup was unable to change the password for user account Administrator. And I encountered these two errors. It looks like it is looking for a 3rd party Defrag tool. Windows Script Host Script:C:\150_DefragHD.vbs Line 76 Char 4 Error: The system cannot find the file specified Code:80070002 Source=(null) Windows Script Host C:\190_SetNextBoot.vbs Line 133 Char 2 Error: The system cannot find the file specified Code:80070002 Source=(null) not sure about this one.. Here is line 133, Char 2 ws.Run("ntregopt.exe silent /noprogresswindow /reboot"),1,True Another than these issues everything worked like a champ.. -
AutoRIS Help Needed with Driverpacks
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
Hey All, I think I may be on to something. I'm on VPN from my house messing around with this again. I feel like i'm addicted now.. I think I may have it right now. Here is what I did. Renamed my current c:\autoris c:\autorisold uncompressed the original autoris install files to a clean c:\autoris directory Edited the ini file, created the DRV_Packs directory and the Driverpacks subdirectory and put the packs in place. I then ran the batch file, nothing really looked different during the process except now I noticed on the RIS Server directory under $oem$\$1 I now have a ton of VBS files in here. I didn't have these before. I may be getting excited over nothing but maybe something in my original autoris directory was messed up. The VBS filenames start with 060 and go to 300, I didn't have these before.. Can't wait to test it out, hopefully this will fix the issue. If this works I owe you guys a Beer if you are ever in Atlanta for all the help. Greg -
AutoRIS Help Needed with Driverpacks
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
Hey Judge, Thanks for the Help.. I am assuming your BTS path in your ini file is C:\AutoRIS\DRV_Packs correct? I know Rogue had me pointing to the base pack at one time. I receive an error when pointing to the base pack in the path. It works when I just have c:\autoris\drv_packs in the bts path, however the i386 directory is only 612mb versus the i386-original is 653 mb. I didn't run Nlite to remove anything. It did move the 7z files into the path R:\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\WINDOWSXP\$OEM$\$1. I still think it's not decompressing them, shouldn't this increase the I386 directory and not decrease it in size? I setup the file structure just like you mentioned. How can I confirm or deny that the files are implemented for pnp detection. Once again I appreciate all the help.. I'm sure you guys get tired of the Autoris noobs.. Thanks, Greg -
AutoRIS Help Needed with Driverpacks
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
No problem, I did read the documentation but feel I may be missing one step or overlooking something. How large will the new I386 directory be after integrating all the driver packs? Everything works great with the exception of the driverpacks. I know the drivers for the PC's I am using are included in the driver packs both for mass storage and network card, video, sound etc.. Now I am not running any of the slipstreaming batch files manually, I simply have the 7z files in my c:\autoris\bts directory. I just can't figure out why it's not decompressing them or should this be done manually before running the Autoris .vbs file. Here is a summary with my log file and my .ini file. AutoRIS Help Needed with Driverpacks
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
Been working at this all day, still no luck. When the drivers are slipstreamed into the install, are they uncompressed in a particular directory? I have the whole process working except for the driver integration. Everything installed including the nic driver I placed into the nic_drivers directory with the exception of all the other drivers. The vbs file seems to run fine but I feel the drivers are not making it into the image. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have tried Nlite also which made me feel like the uncompressing of the drivers is the issue, it will not let me select the 7z files to implement them. Sorry this is frustrating and i'm not having much luck. Greg -
AutoRIS Help Needed with Driverpacks
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
Update... Ok, I have all the driverpacks including the base install pack in c:\autoris\bts and this is reflected in the INI file. However it doesn't seem to work if I put the full path to the base file, I just did it to the directory c:\autoris\bts. I ran autoris.vbs and it completed all the tasks, I now have the compressed driverpacks in the \i386\$oem$ directory on my RIS server partitition? Is this correct? I tried a few systems and still gives me the network driver could not be found. I'm attempting Dell GX 260, 270 etc machines. Thanks for your help, Greg -
AutoRIS Help Needed with Driverpacks
Gaprofitt replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Unattended RIS Installation
It is now saying RIS is configured to intergrate the BTS Packs but is unable to locate the working directory. I changed the path to BTSPATH=C:\BTS_DriverPacks_BASE_V6034. The BTS_Driverpacks_base_v6034 is in C:\ and it's also uncompressed. The driverpacks are both in the in the driverpacks directory. I then tried changing it back to my original c:\autoris\bis. The BTS_Driverspacks is here, it's also uncompressed and the driverpacks are in the driverpacks directory. What am I missing? Thanks for your help, I'd kill to get this working. Greg Atlanta -
Hi All, I think I have everything setup correctly with RIS and need some help with the implementation. I am getting the network driver could not be found for all my machines. I'm positive i'm doing something wrong with the driver pack integration. I've tried it on a bunch of Dell optiplex machines, gx260, gx270, gx280 etc all with the same error. I downloaded all the driver packs and placed them in the directory c:\autoris\bts. My image location is on the same server on another drive. Do I need to run any of the other batch files before I run the autoris main .vbs file? Here is my ini file. [Paths] RISSERVER=datastore.decostar.decoma.com RISIMAGE=\\datastore\Reminst\Setup\English\Images\WindowsXP RVMEXE=RVM_Integrator_1.2.2.exe nLiteEXE=C:\Program Files\nLite\nLite.exe VMwareEXE=C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware.exe VPCEXE=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Virtual PC\Virtual PC.exe BTSPATH=C:\autoris\bts BTSDPM=DriverPack_MassStorage_V6031.7z [Options] IntegrateNIC=NO DelDefSIF=Yes RunRVM=Yes RunNlite=No RunBTS=Yes UseWMI=No Optimize=No OEM=Yes Everything seems to run fine but I don't see any uncompressed drivers anywhere? Where should the included/modified SIF file be stored? Would that go in the templates directory? I think I am just missing a few steps to have this thing running. My understanding from the .ini text info I don't have to run anything with the driver packs except the autoris vbs file. Thanks for the help.. Greg

Hi All, I am having some difficulty with AutoRIS and need some help. I have setup the directories and the Driver Packs, ran the .vbs file which ran successfully. The problem is now on every machine I get the following error. The operating system image you selected does not contain the necessary drivers for your network adapter. Try selecting a different operating system image. I only have one image. The binslvc file version I have is 5.2.3790.1830, I tried stopping and restarting it with no luck. Any suggestions? How can I verify the drivers are in the correct location and that they uncompressed correctly from the vbs file. My path for the Driverpacks is c:\bts, I don't see where it uncompressed the drivers, it's not in $oem$ under my root or on the server under the I386 directory. Thanks, Greg Atlanta

Hi All, Currently at my job we are using Group Policy folder redirection for all desktop users. We redirect the desktop, my documents and application data folder. We have a multi-user client version of Lotus Notes. This puts the Lotus profile in \documents and settings\username\local settings\application data\Lotus. For whatever reason the folder redirection will not move this folder. I have tried adjusting permissions etc. We want the ability to not have to install Lotus Notes and configure it on a new machine each time we rebuild it, someone leaves the company etc. Any suggestions? We run Domino 6.54. I'm more of an exchange guy but this is the only thing stopping us from machine/user independence. Thanks, Greg

Hi everyone, I have a question, I couldn't find this anywhere using the search function, what are these AddonPacks=C:\AutoRIS|RogueSpearAddonsM2_1.3.cab|RVMAddonsWMP10_2.3.cab used for? Are they neccessary? Where can I download them? I noticed they are in the INI file. Thanks, Greg
