It is my understanding that this will be available in WinPE 2.1, which will support Longhorn Server (Windows Server 2008). Vista is a consumer level OS, not a server level OS, and Itaniums are server levels systems, so Vista will probably never run on Itanium.

Altiris DS 6.5 now fully supports running their AClient in WinPE, and using WinPE as a deployment environment - they also support linux as a deployment environment as well, and of course the old DOS that they have always supported. And later this year, they will also support native 64-bit environments for x64 chips, and 64-bit Itanium systems too.
