The DSL icon has Device Name WAN Miniport Device type : PPPoE Server Type : PPP Transports: TCP/IP Authentication: PAP Compression: None PPP mulitiling frame: off Server IP address: xx.xx.1.1 ( address present but not posting) Client IP address: xx.xx.xxx.xx ( address present but not posting) If I disable the network with the exclamation point I loss the connection to the internet. Ok enough information??
  2. WinXp Sp2. I have 2 computers and they are connected using a Netgear 5-port sensing hub. Internet connection through a Westell 6100 DSL modem. The modem has been configure to the bridge mode. I can connect to the internet in this mode and everything works fine. But I have 2 sets of network connection icons in the task bar. One of the icon has a yellow triangluar with an exclamition port in it. If I check the status it says it has Limited or no connectivity. Why is this icon displaying this status??
  3. My problem has been solved. It seem that my Server and DHCP processes under the Administar / Computer Management was disconnect . How this happened I have not idea. I started them and the problem has gone away. Now to the next problem. I would like to thank all of you who replied for you my need for help.
  4. This is a new problem because I have just started using dsl. Equipment involved: computer # 1 P4 2.4GHz with built in nic SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter computer # 2 P4 1.7GHz with built in nic Realtek 10/100 Mbit onboard Dsl Modem Westall 6100 Initially I started with the P4 2.4Ghz Used a direct connection with the modem to nic Tried to install dsl software but it said there was a problem with the cables. I then attempted to install it on the P4 1.7Ghz with direct connection. The installation when smoothly and everything worked. I then when back to the P4 2.4GHz and tried it again. Still the same problem. The software think there is a problem with the cables, I have determined that it is not the cables because I use the same cable to hook up the P4 1.7Ghz and it ran just fine. I do have a connection with the P4 2/4Ghz however I have to connect by click on a icon on my desktop that says DSL. However I still have a second icon in the system tray said it is "Aquiring network address" I still can not figure out why I have this icon for Local connection 5 and why it can not get an address.
  5. It seem like my MB level nic can not get an address. It is stuck at "acquiring an address". The information supplied by Belarc: SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Dhcp Server: none responded Physical Address: 00:10:DC:D5:A8:FA The computer is connected to the internet through a EtherFast® 10/100 5-port Auto-Sensing Hub. Which in turn is connected to a Westall 6100 DSL modem. When I start my computer (single user) it seem to want a password for my account. I have not entered one in I just click ok. When I need to connect to the internet I click on a icon labeled DSL and it reports back that I am connected at 100Mpsb. In the tray at the both of the screen I now have 2 network icons on representing the DSL connection and the other Local connection 5. The Local connection 5 is the one still searching for the address. What is wrong here why can I not get an address for the Local connection 5?
  6. What is you screen resolution set to ? Did you also look at the Desktop font selection? Under Appearance? What is it set to? Normal or something different.
  7. This will only work if the system files are all marked as hidden. There third party software where folders can be hidden and password protected. Currently I do not know of any I used one once with Win98. Just google for hiding files and folders.
  8. Problem solved that was it I had gotten rid of some fonts and apparently I also had deleted them. I reinstalled them and the problem when away. Thank you very much for that simple solution. How in the world did you known that that was the problem? I would never have quessed that.
  9. As you can see the window is bigger then the allowed window space. Yes, I can resize it, using the double arrows as stated but it will not retain the information for the next I open up the window. I have also tryed other ways of resizing it but nothing will keep. It seem like the screen is set to a different resolution. My normal resolution is 800x600 16bit. I have tryed change resolution the going back to it but it remains the same.
  10. Just recently I have noticed some of my program are opening with windows that are supersized. So far the programs are Nero File download manager Mouse properties DVD Shrink I have tryed resizing the window but on reopening that are again supersized. I have tryed the following. Using scroll wheel on mouse to resize. it has no effect Resizing window with double arrow. It changes it but revers back to supersize on reloading. Changing size and using CLOSE instead of X. It changes it but revers back to supersize on reloading. All programs are set to Run in normal window. Anyone have any other ideas as to what else I should check out??
