Okay a simple problem, that most of you will find easy to solve, except for me. I've never delved into this region before but need to. Story below, problem after. I bought a laptop from a cousin of mine that has a COA on it. It's for WINXP Home. Laptop is a Gateway 600YGR. His brother initially bought it, but was suddenly killed a few months later. Now I have it, but there is no rescue disc, no reinstall partition, nothing. So what I would really like to do is a reinstall and get all of my stuff on a fresh OS. Easy right? Well here's the problem. I don't have an OEM Home edition disc. All I have is an Upgrade cd. I've looked around and have seen a few posts regarding the oembios.bin, .dat and .sig files and have done a search for these and guess what, they are there. Do these files necessitate a gateway oem cd be used or can I change the PID value in the upgrade cd to be an oem cd? Any help is appreciated since I would really like to use the provided COA rather than using one of my professional cd-keys that is not in use just in case someone smart enoguh stole the laptop and used magicjellybean and got both of my cd keys. Links, calling me stupid for asking but still helping me out, and pointing me in the right direction are great. Telling me to search doesn't help since I have searched but have been rather unsuccessful. So first post with many more to come, hopefulkly. Thanks again in advance!
