  1. Thanks Dumpy Dooby, very usefull! It would be nice actually if Bâshrat the Sneaky would include some scripts etc. that would make his packs suitable for using on allready setup XP systems.
  2. Thanks 5eraph! That sounds pretty good! Will plug and play work for hardware contained in the driverpacks that way? (Still have to try it out when I reinstall xp today) @Dumpy Dooby Could you explain that a bit firther? Like how this it work and what does it do? Thanks
  3. After experimenting with some unattended XP setups I found that actually it not that nice at all to have all software and drivers installed on the fly. Most of the times you want to customize the setup a bit and new versions of drivers and applications are released on a daily basis. For software I found it's most productive to just have a DVD with all the latest unattended setups on it(like pffice 2003 saves you a lot of time doing unattended), could still use someting like autoit but even that I think takes too much time updating all the time... So what would seem extremely nice to me is if the drivers from the driverpacks could somehow be automatically installed on an allready running XP setup. If that isnt possible, how could we make it easier to find the proper driver from within the extracted driverpacks when installing hardware manually from within device manager? As I understand if you point XP to a certain folder it checks some kinda ID to verify if it's the correct driver for that hardware, so it should be possible right?
  4. Thanks for the advice people. As for virusscanner I think I stick to symantec corporate edition because it don't give many problems and it just keeps on updating;) Persoanally I dont use a virusscanner cause I want my system to be as responsive as possible. The best way to keep a system clean is to regularly restore an image of the systemdrive/partition anyway. I'm kinda chaotic and I like not to worry about making a mess of my system so I just restore my image every few days, it just takes a few minutes and it feels good to know for sure there's no trojans, virusses or keyloggers active. That jetico firewall is nice btw!
  5. First of all thanks a lot to the people making this such a great forum! I'm on a quest of building some sort of basic XP setup cd which is stripped from all nonsense which only makes stuff slower but still is easy to use for most people. Applications I include in setup therefor are only the basics like: -ffdshow -ac3filter -winrar -nero -quicktime and realalternative -Acdsee -winamp -msoffice -symantec av -truecrypt -eraser -keepass What I'm still looking for is a very simple personal firewall with just a bit more options than the one from ms. Any suggestions anyone? Also if someone knows an easy way for novice XP users to be able to restore a system drive image themselves, lemme know. (Currently I use driveimage2002 cause acronis has too many options and yes/no screens for computernoobs) Thanks in advance
