  1. Hey guys, The way I see it, dllcache simply stores copies off all the files in Windows SFC, and, since I disable SFC, dllcache is redundant. I always delete the contents after I've installed Windows on my computers anyway. However, I was wondering, is there a way to stop Windows populating the dllcache folder with all the files when it installs Windows? I don't see any option in nLite anywhere... Cheers.
  2. I was thinking of this last time I installed Windows XP, and, really, the whole install process seems to be slowed down by the fact that all the files on the CD are compressed. Now, of course, orignally, we would have had to do that to fit them on one CD, but, now we have a) DVDs and B) nLite, and, as such, we can make our iso quite titchy... but, what is the point making the ISO really 200 megs, if we're going to whack it on a 700 meg CD anyway. So, I was wondering, is there a way, or does anyone have any ideas how you would go about making a Windows install CD where the files aren't compressed. I mean, surely that would save quite a lot of time when installing Windows, wouldn't it? Just a thought really...
  3. Hey guys, I'm very much a child of the Windows 2000 and XP generation, but I need to install Windows 98SE on an old computer. I've got a disc, and I've had a look... and it's all a bit alien to me. But, I was wondering is there a way of removing components from it and making an unattended install, rather than having to go through command prompts and stuff? I presume there's no programme like nLite for Windows 98... but where do I start playing with my disc? Cheers for any help.
  4. Fixed it... looks like, stupidly, I added a slash before the folder - when you don't need to. Thus: "CDIMAGE.EXE" -lPDF -t08/23/2001,09:00:00 -h -n -m -o -x "PDF" C:\PDF.ISO
  5. I'm using CD Menu Pro, and that has an option to run a command. However, I still can't make the command work, even in a batch file... so that doesn't help me.
  6. Ah yes, I'd really like to know how to do this as well. I assume you need to create a batch file (maybe imbed it into the autorun.exe programme). I've been looking at this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=62111 Which gives the command as: start BOOT\CDIMAGE.EXE -l"Hirens Boot CD 7.6" -t08/23/2001,09:00:00 -b..\HREN.IMG -h -n -o -m ..\BOOTCD "%AllUsersProfile%\Desktop\Hiren's Boot CD 7.6.iso" So, I found one of the discs that lets you create standalone ISOs and nicked the Cdimage.exe programme, and tried to write my own. Basically, I want to turn the folder PDF into an iso called PDF. I put the file CDIMAGE.exe in the same folder and wrote: start CDIMAGE.EXE -lPDF -t08/23/2001,09:00:00 -h -n -m -o -x \PDF C:\PDF.ISO But it didn't work - a command box appears for a second then dissapears. What do I need to write in the bat file to get this to work? Thanks a lot guys.
  7. Hey guys, I've just bought and installed my Digital Camera. It installed fine. However, it hasn't appeared in My Computer. However, it seems to be installed correctly. I can even go into IrfanView and import images from it. I tried it on another Windows XP computer, it installed, and appeared in My Computer... why isn't it appearing in My Computer on, um... my computer. And, does anyone have any idea what I can about it? Thanks guys.
  8. I was wondering, is it possible to add items to the first Start Menu in XP. Not the All Programmes Menu, which is relatively easy to do, but to the right hand side of the double menu that appears when you click on Start (That has My Computer, Control Panel, Printers and Fax etc on it). I mean, using the right click - properties on start menu you can remove stuff, and also using TweakUI you can remove other stuff, but, is it possible to add things to it? Cheers guys.
  9. I don't necessarily want a programme that will do this, as I already have one, but I want a programme that will create a boot disc that will do this... if you see what I mean.
  10. So, would you say that, if you have a service always disabled in Windows, it's best to remove it in nLite. I mean, I always have COM+ disabled, does that mean I should remove that in nLite, for example then?
  11. Hey guys, I've been trying to use Office Shink, and I've run into a bit of a problem. I made the .MST file fine. I've done the administrative install fine. However, when I go to use Office Shrink it copies about 30 megs of files, and then stops. Then, when I run the transform it points out that it can't find most of the files, since they haven't been copied by Office Shrink. Any idea what's wrong with it? Or how I can make it work properly...? Edit: Think I've fixed it now - don't worry about it. Edit: Edit: Actually, perhaps maybe not. Office Shrinker now comes up with a message box saying the Shrink is complete, however, when I go to install, I still get the same problem...
  12. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows any software that will do this. Basically, I want a piece of software that can add a partition to an existing hard drive without reformatting - so basically, Acronis Disk Director Suite. However, I want to be able to do it from a Boot Disc, rather that having to boot to Windows, install the software and run it. If I create a boot disc in Acronis Disk Director Suite, can that do it? Or is there another piece of software that will allow me to create a boot disc to do this. Sorry if this is a stupid question with a really obvious answer, btw...
  13. Hey guys, I have a question about XP services really. Is disabling a service in Windows, more or less the same thing as deleting in from the installation in nLite? I mean, basically, if when I install Windows XP, I disable the service, and never use it, might I just as well remove it in nLite? I suppose, what I'm really asking is, when you disable a service, does that stop all of it, or do some bits of it remain, that removing the service in nLite would remove? The thing is, when I run my computer, I don't use many services, maybe about half a dozen on automatic and half a dozen on manual. Does that mean that I can remove all the ones set to disabled in nLite with no ill effects? Thanks guys.
  14. Hey guys, I'm trying to make a multiboot CD of my slipstreamed, streamlined Windows 2000 and Windows XP. So, I have my 2 ISOs. I thought I'd try using MagicISO, and I found rather a nice guide on how to do it here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=62447 But, anyway, I was thinking, since both my images have the same contents (an I386 folder), when I copy them to my CD I have to put them in folders Windows 2000 and Windows XP - will copying the boot sectors from those original discs still work then? And, if they won't, what do I have to do to make them work? Thanks a lot guys. And, if there's an easier way to combine these two images to make a multi boot disc, please, feel free to point me in the directions of a guide on how to do that.
  15. Hey guys, I hope this is relevent. I was wondering, I often end up installing the same programmes again and again on different computers, so, I was wondering, would it be possible to make one .exe file that encorporates various different .exes into one, but, more than that, would customize install them (since I usually customise my installs) - you know, not install all the parts, or install to non-default locations. I've tried using Windows Installer Wrapper Wizard, which seems to be the way to go - but how do I make it unattended, without asking me questions about each program it installs? Thanks a lot.
  16. Doesn't Shrink Office just remove the foreign language files? I'd quite like to really rip my office CD apart - deleting, for example, all of Access. You see, after I've installed Office on my computer the program files folder is about 145 MB big. The install ISO I have is about 500 (which seems a bit silly). I tried Shrink Office and that did cut it down to about 300, but that's still twice the size of the program files folder. I know there are other bits of office elsewhere, but, really, if anything my install source should be smaller than my office install.
  17. Hi guys, I've been using nLite to streamline down by Windows CDs, which is very, removing all the components I don't need and making my installs nice and sleek by default. However, I was wondering whether there was a similar piece of software for Office, or, if not, if there was a way of doing a similar thing. You see, when I install Office 2003, all I want is Powerpoint, Word, Publisher and Excel. I don't want most of the other tools, and I only want English proofing tools. This is fair enough, and you can do this all through the advanced setup. However, I was wondering whether there was a way to delete all these extra bits I don't want from the entire disc, making a kind of streamlined unattended ISO which I can burn, Thanks a lot for any ideas anyone can offer.
  18. Hi guys, I'm trying to create an unintended Windows XP install with everything I want - so Office, and various other programmes - winamp, VLC player, alcohol, db power amp, etc... Anyway, I've come to a bit of a deadend really. I've got nLite, and I've used that to add SP2 and various other hot fixes to my install disc, and delete bits I don't want, etc. So, now I've got a fairly small ISO of my windows. Then, I've got the office "custom installation wizard" thing... which seems pretty impressive. I've been following the guide here: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/50/ But at the end, I'm a bit stuck. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but where do I put the batch command? And, also, how do I merge my Office 2003 install files with my Windows XP ISO. I have Magic ISO, but I'm fairly stumped on how to put them all together. Added to that, how do I go about installing things like Winamp as well? Sorry if that's a lot of questions, and thanks for your time guys.
