  1. Thank you for this detailed answer.

With a given network configuration using an internet box (ADSL+VoIP), it seems that "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service is really necessary to make the connection.

As it is not on my machine @home, I have to manage the update by phone+mail (not the easiest way).

After analysis of nettcpip.inf, I exactly reach the point you propose:

=> extract the LmHosts reg key from a working machine, and add it, as well as lmhsvc.dll in system32.

The service is now visible but gives error 1083 when activated.

I found it could be related to BITS service key (transfert background service), add the BITS reg key the same way as LmHosts key, but following error is 126.

I am on the way to recreate a new NLite build, but of course would have been faster to just add what is missing especially when managed by phone and mail !

If you know how to workaround next error 126, you're welcome !

  2. I would also be very interested to get the answer about how to reinstall "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service in XP, if too agressively removed with NLite....

Is it just an .inf file like "nettcpip.inf" to reinstall ? Does not seem to be sufficient......

    Thanks for your clever ideas.

  3. I don't get any error with this, but did not understand why some settings were not taken into consideration and some others just sometimes.

From one NLite release to others, pre-settings should be 100% checked to avoid surprises at the end of the process.

    Status with 1.2RC:

[services] section does not exist anymore; removed services are now in [components] sections

[services2] section only contains modified service settings.

    Good to know.

  4. Well, does not seem to reflect the reality of some past configuration files;

=> would need some confirmation if possible.

With Nlite 1.2RC, I have a [services2] section for modified services, but no [services] section anymore for removed services.

My confusion comes from this observation; then bug or not ?

Apparently, [services] section is only read&saved in Last Session.ini file, but cannot be saved in any other configuration file.

[services2] section does not behave the same, and preset can be saved in any other configuration file.

May be something to do with this error:

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

  5. GUIattended option is already part of Unattended setup during NLIte process.

If you got this option, it is normal that winnt.sif is created.

If you don't want any winnt.sif file, just skip/unselect "Unattended" section of Nlite process.

Also check before starting NLite process that a winnt.sif file has not been already created during a previous setup process, or already existing on the CD you start the process with.

    It should work.

    That's all I know.

  6. As far as I know, whatever the content of \I386\winnt.sif is, as soon as winnt.sif file is found by the setup process after CD boot, repair option will not be available.

The most flexible option is to move winnt.sif to a floppy.

It will be found by the setup process.

If you want repair option back, just remove the floppy !

  7. Do you have a \i386\winnt.sif for unattended installation ?

I think the presence of winnt.sif by itself removes ability to repair/recovery console.

If you want to use repair, you should use a non-unattended CD.

  8. Thanks for your answers.

then ask vier to make it work with nlite....only the author of that pack can help u....or u can go modify it by yourself to make it work with nlite.....
I could not do it ..... simply because all the email addresses I tried to register on the other forum were rejected !!!!! (did not understand).

I will then check with the very latest NLite release if CXP_UpdatePack_130fr.7z & CXP_AddOn_WMP10.7z can be integrated.

However what does not create trust is the perception of competition between NLite and RVM integration tool, at least from end user point of view from one forum to the next one.

It would be good if some rules would exist to ensure packets compatibility between NLite and RVM tool, a kind of gentlemen agreement !!!

  9. why dont you use rvm? I use it with vier's update pack and it works great..

Simply because I need to use the following steps of NLite (options / patchs / Tweaks) I don't find on RVM integrator, and I have read that you should not use NLite after RVM.

    Hope it is clear enough.

  10. "and its suppose to work with both"

Unfortunately this is not what is said on the french forum claiming that compatibility with NLite is not granted.

The Nlite process is a long process, and I am then looking for more reliable information than assumptions.

    vier on Wed Aug 02, 2006 : http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=31536#31536

"Je n'ai aucune idée pour la compatbilité avec nLite 1.01, et ce n'est pas mon problème ! "

=> No idea, and I don't care about compatibility with NLite !!!

How to trust any compatibility ?

Would be good if better synchronised between languages !

And BTW, you say: "add the pack as a hotfix in hotfix page....."

But this is what I explain does not work with CXP_UpdatePack_130fr.7z & CXP_AddOn_WMP10.7z.

These hotfixes are not accepted by Nlite V1.0.0.16.

I am looking for the solution.

  11. Hello,

I am a bit confused after reading the French forum.

I understood that some hotfix packages are compatible with Ryan integrator but not with Nlite.

    examples: CXP_UpdatePack_130fr.7z & CXP_AddOn_WMP10.7z.

I also read that we should start from source which means we cannot start to integrate with Ryan integrator, then continue with Nlite.

I would like to use french packages with Nlite: how should I proceed ?

    Thanks.

  12. Ok thanks but I did not make a CD of Nlited XP.

I have the Nlited files/directories on hard disk, and assigned a drive letter with subst.exe, after correction of source path in the registry.

This does not work and I don't understand why, but may be this has nothing special with Nlite.

    example:

    • subst.exe X: D:\XP_Nlite
      subst.exe S: D:\XP_service_pack (extracted files of course)
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]
      "SourcePath"="X:\\"
      "ServicePackSourcePath"="S:\\"
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
      "SourcePath"="X:\\"

If you think with a CD it should better work, I trust you, but I will never understand the difference with the files on HD with relevant registry information.

    Thanks anyway.

  13. Somebody suggested that I try sfc /scannnow, but when I put in the disc so it can replace some DLLcache files it ignores the fact that it's in there and keeps asking for the XP Professional SP2 disc. For the record, I have tried manual, web, and auto update for these two hotfixes.

    Hello,

No feedback on that one ? How to recreate/refresh DLLcache ?

The process never recognizes the right CD or right directories, even after modification in the registry of SourcePath and ServicePackSourcePath according to updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html .

Is there a way to rebuild DLLcache from a nlited XP ?

    Thanks.
