  1. Oh, I see. And yes it certainly does help. Thank you very much. Regards, scoopyx.
  2. Hi. I've put a Sony Optiarc AD-7240S SATA burner in my machine. In Device Manager it shows as a SATA device, but in my Convert X To DVD software it displays as IDE. Does anyone know whether this is normal? And a second question, can I run two SATA burners in the same computer? Thanx and regards, scoopyx.
  3. Hello everyone. On the computer at my work depot (which runs Windows 2000), there's an annoying thing happening with Outlook Express. When an email message is opened, there's a whole lot of text above the main message text - I can't remember whther it's called the header or something else. The problem is, it's been so long since I used OE that I've forgotten how to stop these lines of text appearing. I'm sure I was able to do it when I used OE, so is anyone able to jog my memory? Thanx and regards, scoopyx.
  4. Okay then, thank you all. I'll see how I go. And rendrag, you are indeed correct... scoopyx
  5. Hey. No, it's not a brand computer, just a machine built with parts I ordered by a chain called Leading Edge here in Victoria, Australia. That is, I gave them a list of the components I wanted (motherboard model/brand; hard disk model/brand; graphics card model/brand etc etc), they ordered them in and put it all together for me. I probably should have stipulated that I wanted a full retail copy of XP Pro but I didn't realise it at the time. I guess I'm probably stuffed. scoopyx.
  6. Hi. I've read a lot about this issue and I'm confused. I had my computer built for me, to my specifications, about 15 months ago and all of a sudden I'm experiencing problems. I won't go into them, but I'm almost ready to have the motherboard (an ASUS A8N-VM CSM) replaced. When the computer was built, those who put it all together for me installed an OEM version of XP Pro, so my question is this: If my motherboard is on the way out and I have it replaced, can I use this version of XP with a new motherboard or not, particularly if I choose a different brand? Thanx. scoopyx
  7. G'day. A bit more research revealed that the disappearing 'tooltips', as they're apparently called, is an ongoing bug with XP and ME, which Microsoft continually ignores. LLXX, I tried the restarting explorer.exe thing last night and it seemed to work, but I've also followed your tip about keeping the Taskbar on top of other windows, so I'll see what happens. Ctrl-X, I don't know whether I want to mess about with video drivers etc because, frankly, I don't know what I'm doing in that regard (besides, my computer's still only about six months old). And I tried the F11 thing, but found that the best way to get around this issue was to resize the windows and not hit that Maximise button (the middle one in the top right corner). So if that works (which it does) I'll just use that, I think. I thank you both for your help. Regards, scoopyx.
  8. Hi everyone. Something weird has happened. All of a sudden, if I've got my internet browser (Firefox) open and I hover my mouse over the system tray clock, the little info box that pops up and displays the date pops up behind the browser window. It's the same with other windows that I may have open at the same time. I can't figure out what's going on. Any ideas? Also, if I open Internet Explorer (which isn't very often, I have to say), it fills the entire screen and I can't even see the taskbar or system tray. Even resizing the IE window doesn't help. Again, any pointers would help, because it's got me stumped. Thanx. scoopyx.
  9. Thank you, cluberti. I appreciate the advice. Regards, scoopyx.
  10. Hello, this is my first post here. It might sound dumb, but I'm very confused about this and thought this would be the place to ask. I'm running Win98SE on a computer built for me some time back, and have decided I'd like to try Win2k. If I was to buy an OEM version combined with a piece of hardware (say on eBay or at a computer swap meet), would I be able to reformat my machine and install Win2k successfully without having to use the bit of hardware that comes with it? I'd like to think I could, because my copy of Win98SE is an OEM which I bought separately from my machine and it installs/reinstalls okay (I can't remember whether I bought a piece of hardware with it, though). Again, I know this probably sounds like a dumb question but I've never been certain about this issue. And researching it on the 'Net hasn't helped much... Thanks. scoopyx
