  1. Have you tried running something like Process Explorer to see what is going in the OS with more detail? It's quite handy in trying to 'capture' something fishy going on.
  2. Just wondering if there is any place in the registry to create additional windows key shortcuts (ie Windows+E etc)? I know I can easily create shortcuts to programs and assign one in there, I wanted to see if you can add them straight into the XP registry instead. The second question is how can I change the Explorer behaviour for WINDOWS+E so it automatically goes to a location of my choice? I can accomplish this by simply creating a new shortcut to Explorer.exe and adding the /e,/m,/select switches but want to modify WINDOWS+E behaviour directly. I tried searching google but had no luck besides the shortcut method.
  3. the above line should read: That is the problem, it generates a pre-compiling error in setuplog.txt (error = 000100E or something close) when it tries to process the SVCPACK.INF file during the file copy stage. I had a similar problem but managed to track down the cause. A question about applying hotfixes by SVCPACK.INF, why does Microsoft say to expand the hotfix files and separate the .CAT files and create additional entries for them in the SVCPACK.INF? Looking at Technet, Microsoft seems to contradict themselves in several different articles about this particular method.
  4. Does anyone know of any Technet articles that explains all the different log files that get generated when Windows installs and when they get created and by what process? I'd like to find a flowchart which explains what happens when during different stages of a Windows installation, just for reference purposes. Also, is there anyway to force Windows to create the log files in a different location during setup or is it hard coded? I know I can simply run a batch file at the end of the installation to move the files but wanted to find out if Windows offers something natively.
