  1. @ NaDer_GenKO: coincidentally i also left out the IE7 update this time. i had a feeling it might have been causing some trouble. but i also didn't check the option for MassStorage drivers during textmode in Bashrat's DP and the setup is working in the virtual machine. however, i am not sure if that is the same thing i would do for my real setup as i would need to have the drivers for my SATA controller. any ideas? thanks.
  2. thanks for the advice Kiki Burgh it could be a corrupted file in my install... i just don't want to start over again but i guess i will have to.
  3. I am testing an unattended XP install with slipstreamed service packs and updates/patches/hotfixes. I have used both Virtual PC and VirtualBox to test my ISO but I run into the same error with both. The virtual machine boots my ISO and I get to the text portion of setup. Then I get the "Setup is starting Windows" message an things stop. I tried changing the ACPI settings on the VirtualBox machine and setup got stuck loading the NTFS file system. In the past I have had to switch my monitor's input from DVI to VGA after the "Setup is starting Windows" part of setup, but I'm not sure how this translates to the virtual machines. My winnt.sif specifies a res. of 1920x1200 @ 60Hz, my monitor's native res. I am wondering if these problems are due to settings in the virtual machines or in my setup. I will try rebuilding the setup & ISO but hopefully can get some advice in the meantime. Thanks.
  4. Very correct. That explains the problem. ferny's monitor MUST be incapable of using those resolutions and therefore he will see DURING setup nothing but "out of range", while after setup it should work fine. If ferny's setup is completely unattended, it should finish without a problem. If some input is required though, then it's very normal that "it doesn't work". So ferny, what monitor do you have exactly? SOLVED! Thanks JSe. The solution was quite obvious but I kept thinking it had to be something in the software and not the hardware configuration itself. You were right that I needed to use the analog (VGA) input during setup! However, I find it hard to believe Windows setup is a VGA only application, the regular MS install works with DVI too right? I wonder what is causing that change. In any case, if someone else runs into trouble using an HP L2335, you have to connect the VGA to VGA cable and manually select the Analog VGA input (actually might work analog DVI but I didn't try that). Using the VGA to VGA you can just switch between inputs when necessary, since you will need to go back to digital DVI input when Windows is setup. Thanks guys for the help!
  5. Were you also losing synch with your monitor during install? Also, I don't seem to have a presetup.cmd in my install. Can I just add my monitor drivers to the install and add the path to OemPnPDriversPath?
  6. I have recently returned from a long trip and am attempting to get this working again. Yes the monitor supports those resolutions, but not natively. It's strange because the monitor is stating the signal is "out of range", but my WINNT.SIF is set to: [Display] Xresolution = 1920 Yresolution = 1200 BitsPerPel = 32 Vrefresh = 60 which is the monitor's native resolution. I should also mention that the monitor is connected to a Radeon 9700 via DVI. I guess I will include my entire WINNT.SIF in case there is something else in there that is throwing off the installation: ; Generated by nLite 1.0 RC7 [Data] MsDosInitiated = "No" Autopartition = 0 UnattendedInstall = "Yes" [Unattended] OemPnPDriversPath = "D\C\A;D\C\AM\1;D\C\AM\2;D\C\AM\3;D\C\AM\4;D\C\AM\5;D\C\AM\6;D\C\AM\7;D\C\AT;D\C\AU;D\C\I;D\C\IT;D\C\N;D\C\S; Then I use Bashrat's DPs. I have used all three methods with Bashrat's DP and always get the same result. After the press F6 screen (I don't press) startup loads a bunch of drivers, then I get the "Setup is starting Windows" message and the monitor signal goes "out of range" and I lose the image. Also want to add a little about my install directory structure if that helps. There is an $OEM$ directory at the root of my install. Inside that are 2 directories: $$ and $1. Inside $$ are 2 more: INF and system32. Inside $1 is the D directory, and inside that are C G L M S W directories. In those are more directories with all the drivers from Bashrat's DPs. This is the structure using method 1 with a DVD. I thought maybe my problem was uncompressing the DPs using the other methods (2 & 3) so I tried the XBOX HUGE! uncompressed method using DVD.
  7. I'm not even sure this will fix my problem, so let me start with what it is. The problem is my monitor loses synch when I get to the GUI portion of the install, after the drivers are loaded and setup inspects the system. It's as if there's no signal being sent from my video card. I am using nLite and Bashrat's DPs. I have been using method 3 and I have the display variables set in my winnt.sif: [Display] Xresolution = 1920 Yresolution = 1200 BitsPerPel = 32 Vrefresh = 60 Monitor is a HP L2335, and that is it's native resolution. I have the Graphics A DP for my ATI so it's probably not missing graphic adpater drivers. I didn't think I would need monitor drivers but maybe I do. Is there a way to include them after applying BAshrat's DPs, or do I need to make my own pack and re-integrate all the DPs? Thanks.
  8. Oops, realized my Vrefresh should be 60. Resolution is definitely 1920x1200, it's an HP L2335. But, even though I changed the setting the monitor still loses synch right after "Windows is starting". First the monitor loses synch, then there's no signal at all. I am using latest nLite, RyanVM post SP2 update pack, and Bashrat's DPs. My procedure is to slipstream SP2 and RyanVM with nLite. Then I add Bashrat's DPs using method 2. My root directory structure ends up looking like this: $OEM$ I386 OEM Autorun.inf boot.bin Last Session.ini Last Session_u.ini README.HTM SETUP.EXE setupxp.htm WIN51 WIN511IP win51ip.sp2 Is it a problem that I have two OEM directories? Do I need to combine them? Thanks again for help. Edit: I tested the install in VMWare and it works fine. Still doesn't work from disc though.
  9. Just to make sure, this is what my WINNT.SIF looks like: ; Generated by nLite 1.0 RC5 [Data] MsDosInitiated = "No" Autopartition = 0 UnattendedInstall = Yes [Unattended] OemPreinstall = "Yes" UnattendMode = GuiAttended UnattendSwitch = Yes OemSkipEula = Yes FileSystem = * WaitForReboot = No NoWaitAfterTextMode = 1 NoWaitAfterGUIMode = 1 [Display] Xresolution = 1920 Yresolution = 1200 BitsPerPel = 32 Vrefresh = 75 [SystemRestore] [GuiUnattended] AutoLogon = Yes EncryptedAdminPassword = No AdminPassword = "REMOVED" TimeZone = 04 OEMSkipRegional = 1 OemSkipWelcome = 1 [Components] [UserData] ProductKey = "REMOVED" ComputerName = MOUNT_KAILAS FullName = "REMOVED" OrgName = "REMOVED" [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup = 1 Language = 0409 [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents = Yes [Identification] JoinWorkgroup = GREENFOREST [GuiRunOnce] command9 = "%SystemDrive%\D\BTS_DPs_finish.cmd" "%SystemRoot%\System32\nLite.cmd" It seems like other people add driver paths to the Unattended section. Am I missing something? Thanks.
  10. Well, it can't be the monitor drivers because the original XP install doesn't have them....
  11. I'm having a problem with my slipstreamed and unattended windows install. It loads all the disk drivers and then gets to "Windows is starting", then my LCD monitor loses synch and I can't see anything. I've created the install with nLite, RVM, and Bashrat's DPs. My display adapter is a Radeon 9700. Do my monitor's drivers need to be in the install as well? My monitor is a HP L2335. I have it hooked up via digital DVI and it requires a 1920x1200 res @ 75Hz. Any help greatly appreciated
