    Java VM

Worked! I made an IEXPRESS silent install but changed the install command to javatrig.exe /l /nowincheck /exe_install /q which I found in another forum. I did not found build 3809 of MSVM , but build 3805 did the same job. Thanks os2fan2!

    Java VM

Hi, I would like to know if it`s possible to include Java VM into HFSLIPped W2K or XP (with IE) Officially MS does not include their VM anymore. But Support is until end of 2007. Does all users use Sun Java VM now? The old MS Java VM is still available on some Support sites. I ask this because I have encountered some IE crashes after browsing Java content with Sun Java VM. Regards.
  3. I have had similar problems. Now I use "Free Download Manager 1.9" and it's one of the rare which is capable to work in our corporate network.
  4. Thanks for the quick reply, but the problem is that the users install programs after the firewall has been setup. And I do not know if they are capable to decide which access to allow/block. (I use Sygate5.6 and Kerio2.1.5 at home and even for me it's boring to be frequently asked for allow/block apps!) So my intention was to simulate a simple hardware firewall which is part of most DSL or WLAN routers.
  5. Hi, I want to setup a Personalfirewall (Freeware) for some PC newbies. (Kids surfing the internet via dial-in) Possible Firewalls are Kerio2.1.5-4.2.3; Sygate5.6; Outpost2.7 The firewall shall not ask the user for apps to allow/block !!!!! So I need a configuration which is not application dependant. - block inbound access - allow streaming media like realmedia - allow software updates of the installed apps (various) - IE6 + Outlook express should work - block all other unneeded port access Any comments+help is appreciated.
  6. Maybe someone is able to create an Autoit script? Slowview is AFAIK the only freeware viewer for corporate use! So it should be of some interest.
  7. Of course this exists, or do you think we have manually installed and activated hundreds of XP licences in our company??? See Microsoft " Volume License Product Key "
  8. I think most of them are java script based. A nice IE utility is "Flash and Pics Control" to fast switch java+flash on and off. But it cannot selectively block only layer-ads.
  9. Flash and Shockwave should not have been deleted even when deleting offline content. It still works for me XPSP2. What Flashplayer did you install?
  10. Does anybody know a IE6 plugin etc. to block annoying layer-ads? Test: (www) campaignstats.net (/) layerad.html proxomitron shall be good but too difficult for me.
  11. I found this very impressive IE Toolbar called "Quero" www_quero_at. It's similar to Google Toolbar but has a Flashblocker and several Search engines to choose. Does anybody have a automated install script for this app. preferably with registry settings to remove IE address bar etc. (not needed anymore with quero)?
  12. Yes, this looks well. But unfortunately this is also only a collection of some known IDs up to a certain date, so newer USB devices won't install. I still have to use USBVIEW.EXE get VID and PID and put them manually into the inf. Maybe I'm to ambitious searching for a solution like W2k/XP already have.
  13. Reasons for using W98: 1) no money to buy a new highend XP machine 2) having only a processor of 500 MHZ or lower 3) startup time only a few seconds, with W2k up to minutes, XP only little faster than W2k 4) shutdown time only very few seconds (W2k up to a minute) 5) restore the OS from backup in only 10 minutes I'm quite happy with my Celeron 500 and 128Megs of Ram. It's enough for Internet surfing, eMails and some old Games. Even video capture with cards like the old Matrox Rainbow Runner is still exciting (due to missing driver support on W2k/XP ;-) On ebay, you can get a 500MHZ machine + valid W98 licence for under 50$ thats cool! Of course I would not recommend using W98 on a modern hardware anymore.
  14. Hi, for using a USB Memorystick with W98se, there is a driver patch on the internet. (Google) You have to know the VID and PID of the memorystick , edit the inf file of a driver (e.g. Samsung) accordingly and it works. You have to do this for every different type of memorystick again. So far so good. Unfortunately I am no software geek, but it should be possible to automate the process: Read out the VID and PID of the registry then create a appropriate inf file. Or, if somewhere is a table with known VIDs and PIDs of memorysticks, why do not create a universal inf file which may contain all of the VIDs/PIDs and installs them automatically if needed?
  15. Hi, does anybody have a clever solution to install 7zip and Winmerge silent and auditable? This means: Not only a ready to use *.exe to download from "somebody" which may contain anything else. The registry keys for 7zip to associate with archives. The dlls which are needed for Winmerge to work with 7zip. Of course not only working for english language and c:\ as install drive. Easy replacing the files in the package when newer versions of 7zip and Winmerge are available. I have used some cmd + reg files with IEXPRESS and achieved 95% success, but I am still working on details like removing quickstart icon, automatic language and programfolder detection, 7zip file associations etc.
  16. I am using a german version now and I could supply all the Hotfixes etc. used in the HFSLIP topic, which are available from MS in german. But how to build a Servicepack out of this dozends of different files?
  17. Hi, I want to periodical update w2k installations with security fixes etc. The computers have low speed dial in connections, so windowsupdate sucks. Starting point should be W2k with SP4. Searching the MSFN forums I found Gurgelmeyers Hotstream project which would be the hit but it supports only English versions. (I need german and maybe french) Currently I use HFSLIP for new installations with great success. Some computer magazines offer updatepacks but they usually works like a batch process applying dozens of fixes sequentially which last up to hours. So my question is: Does anybody know a procedure or a program to combine/slipstream hotfixes etc. to ONE single hotfix?
  18. Hi, I have encountered some problems with the file copy function of explorer.exe: The problem: copying files which includes locked ones (by system or other user...) copy process aborts when a locked file is processed. --> the remaining unlocked files are not copied anymore!!! Does anybody know a solution (standalone utility w. drag/drop or explorer plugin) which at least gives a statistics how many files (not) have been copied etc? The dot on the i would be an additional improved dialog when overwriting existing files like "overwrite all", "skip all" ... This was one reason among others which caused a complete reinstall of a sloppy backed up XP computer with ERD commander (BartPE like utility).
  19. Thanks Gurgelmeyer, I was not able to download and check the package yet. btw, this may not be the right topic but is there a possibility to make localized versions? (german,french..)
  20. natan770 this looks pretty good. unfortunately I cannot look inside your packages and see what they do. (maybe with MSIViewer or similar..) So my question is: do you have included in your packages also registry tweaks like: disabling autoupdates 7zip - assigning archive file extensions etc...?
  21. Gas_Hed my current version of explorer.exe is still 5.00.3700.6690 from where did you get a newer?
  22. Have you compared to MBSA2.0 scan? In the past I've been very disappointed about "Shavlik" software so I use only MBSA2.0 now
  23. Hi, is there a way to replace explorer.exe and keep WFP running? Do i have to use modifyPE.exe ? (Maybe it's possible to slipstream with HFSLIP into the cabinets or similar?)
  24. I 've disabled autoupdate during silent install as follows: INSTALL.CMD: start /wait msiexec.exe /i "install_flash_player_active_x.msi" /qb start /wait msiexec.exe /i "sw_lic_full_installer.msi" /qb regedit /s shockwavenoupdate.reg copy mms.cfg %windir%\system32\mms.cfg mms.cfs: AutoUpdateDisable=1 shockwavenoupdate.reg: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\AutoUpdate] @="n" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\CollectStatistics] @="n" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\collectstats] @="n" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\AutoUpdate] @="n" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\CollectStatistics] @="n" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\collectstats] @="n"
  25. Hi, I am also searching for a good 7-zip silent install solution. Does somebody have a universal solution for language + target directory? I use now a batch to detect language and target directory. The batch calls different setups and reg-files depending on environment: Languages: Englisch or German Dirs: C:\Program Files, D:\Program Files, C:\Programme, D:\Programme ... But I would prefer a better solution. I posted a message in the 7zip forum and got the reply that for file associations no other way than reg-file is possible. ( Seems that nobody needs this ;-) I think 7z430 does not need the following keys anymore: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7-ZIP\FM\Associations] What about AutoIt? Is it possible to call 7zipFM and simulate keyboard + mouse"Tools+Options+Select All" with this?
