I have windows XP SP3 Home edition and Outlook 2003 Pro SP3.
I'm trying to connect to the company exchange server (outsourced) that is exchange 2013 with OWA.
I can log in via the OWA and a browser.
I can create IMAP and POP3 connections using outlook 2003 to the exchange 2013.
However, I can't connect to the exchange server 2013 by creating an exchange server account on outlook 2003.
I can't connect through activesync 4.5 using outlook connector but can connect to a msoft outlook email account.
Since the prototocol is RPC over https I had to enable the RPC encryption value in the registry manually although another website said to use the gpedit.msc group policy to set the encryption. It doesn't set the same registry value. Since Windows XP didn't come with the gpedit.msc, I downloaded it from Msoft since it is the same one used for windows XP Pro. I also had to get the Outlk11.adm or the newer office 2003 adm templates for SP3 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9035, Under "user configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "Microsoft Office Outlook 2003" -> "Outlook 2003 RPC Encryption" -> "Exchange Settings" there is an entry for "Enagle RPC Encryption" which I enabled.
See link

You could try to configure static ports in outllook, alhtough I didn't try doing this.

Here's some more outlook 2003 debugging

when I try to setup an outlook 2003 exchange account and run "outlook /rpcdiag" on the windows run line I see in the diag window that it establishes a connection but disconnects and retries/restores the connection every few minutes. It doesn't get the mailbox names downloaded. I've also enabled outlook 2003 logging, but haven't been able to read the ETL files it creates.
Thus, to debug this I've installed openssl, to get the certificates needed to decrypt SSL using netmon 3.4 from msoft or wireshark. I then capture the communications with the exchange 2013/OWA but I can't get the certs to decode the data packets, nor get the network parsing language to mark the Imap, pop3 or exchange transmission,to see what is going on during communications with the server.
Did anybody use the network tools to find out why the server disconnects? Outlook 2010 on a windows 8 machine will connect either with exchange setup, Imap or pop3 but I can't leave my email account on friends machine. Although I have mine working with imap and pop3, I'd still like to understand why the exchange setup isn't.
During setup of exchange on outlook 2003 it runs the "autodiscover" on the server website, but mine won't autodiscover so I had to enter the FQDN name of my server by getting the equivalent using the MSosft's exchange server test website.

All my IMAP, pop3, exchange ports are correct thru the firewall.

WIndows 7 professional will try and update with Visual C++ 2008 SP1 redistributable x64 but during the installation
it errors out with code 1395 and 0x80070091 for VC90_ATL. Searching the internet these were the proposed
solutions.
1). MSOFT KB2714434 Fixit
2). download and run SubinACL on the registry//directories with system and administrator set to full priveleges. This
seemed to work on changing most registry entries without error but not all.
Items 1/2 didn't correct the problem even when running the C++ 2008 redistrib as a user with Administrator privelges or using "run as".
3). Ran MSOFT KB947821 dated Oct 27, 2014 which is a tool to correct errors and hopefully allow software with SP1 to install and work without problem. I'm not sure what it actually corrected, but C++ 2008 redistribut still didn't install.
4). Tried to install the non-SP1 C++ 2008 redistribute then the SP1 version for x64. It failed to install the non-SP1 version.
What worked.
Disable the 3rd party anit-virus and the Win 7 firewall and it will install. Both have to be disabled temporariliy. Disabling only one of them will not allow C++ 2008 Redistributable to install.

this goes to windows service debug. I see in the article where one could change the service name timeout value. Is this a common problem where one has to change the service timeout value?

I've been getting the Error 1053 in the system event logs that says the service didn't start in a timely manner of 30000msec.
This wasn't a problem in the past. This is Windows XP Home Sp3 with the latest patches. The services complaining are,
This is an HP compaq presario v5000 with maxed out memory and a 2.2 gig processor. FSB is 800mhz.
Windows image acquistion (WIA)
Hp Support Services Framework
garmin core update service
Randomly sometimes is the tcp/ip service
Is there a command that will tell me what prevents these services from starting in a timely manner?
If not, can the time be update to be greater than 30000msec to lets say 40000msec?

I have installed garmin express v2.3.17 (latest) software which upon startup wants to be put in the system tray. However, when XP starts up, a "run as" popup is displayed asking for me to give "garmin express" permission to run as the 'pc name xyz/user' where my user account is called "user" and has adminsitrator rights. I have to answer the question three times before it goes to the system tray. If disabled from going to the system tray and i start it manually from the desktop or start menu, it asks three times using the "run as' popup. Why should it being doing this since I'm administrator? How to determine the causes? Is it some service that needs adminstrator rights and the garmin gps software isn't configured properly by garmin on install? garmin support said it was due to UAC, but this isn't Vista. They eventually responded that they don't know why this is occuring on XP.
i're uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail!
Directories and subdirectories may have mostly the owner marked as "Administrators" (yes its plural) or with my 'pc name xyz/user" owning it. The same applies to any filename and has the attribute "A". There are files installed in Program Files and in the "all users" and "user" Application Data subdirectory under Garmin.
There are log files created, but they don't say anything about checking or logging security info.
Is there a way to determine the cause of this?

I've quite a few programs on the start menu under "All Programs". There is four columns of 34 programs per column. However, I need to still the remaining ones which should be on column five and beyond, but i can't see them.
I came across this solution, but now all the "All programs" entries showup in one column and not multiple columns (max 4) and have them scroll left to see the columns on the right side of the screen.
How to get max columns on the screen scrolling to the left to display the remaining installed programs?
windows XP SP3. I've installed quite a few programs and am running into a few problems. when I select start menu->All Programs i see 4 colums of 34 entries per column. However, I can't select the fifth column to see what is on it which should cause the menus to move left to get more than 4 columns with 34 entries per column. I did find this solution,
I understand your problem exactly. You mean, you have so many programs installed, and would like to display them, without the limitation of Windows stopping (or going over) your display space! Which renders your mouse useless.
I too (being a video editor/comp tech)have run into the same problem, as I have hundreds of software titles installed (and no, it has nothing to do with software creating entries).
It's not a virus, nor any other horrible thing. It simply requires a change...
Right-Click on START
Select the Start-Menu, Tab
Make sure the Start Menu 'radio-button' is selectedSelect the 'Customize button'
Select the 'Advanced Tab'
Scroll about 3/4 of the way through the list and you will find a check-box, indicating:
Scroll through Programs
Put a check in that box.
Shut down, re-start, and you should be good to go.0 -

'll need to disable AVAST to see if this cuts down on my 2 hours on 2ghz machine to integrate 132 w7 x32 patches. Don't forget to disable the auto defragger running in the background too.
If one is creating an AIO, there are 5 OS' at 2 hours a pop to integrate... Sigh!!!
Can dism integrated MSI's vs. just exes?
What about dot Net full/patches, windows media player full/patcches, messenger/communicator etc?

I'm running version 2.5 build 1002 along with the following download packages retrieved from www.windowsupdatesdownloader.com
For win7 sp1 x32 the following can't be found
Windows6.1-kb2823324--x64.msu
Windows6.1-Kb947821-V25-x86.msu
Question: why an x64 for the Win 7 x32? should this be x32 in the file? (kb947821 v25 should be v26 now)
For win7 sp1 x64 the following can't be found
Windows6.1-kb2823324-x64.msu (same as above)
Windows6.1-kb947821-v25-x64.msu (v25 should be v26 now)
NOTE: for the kb2823324 x32/x64 version Msoft removed it per the internet postings due to it causing boot blue screens. The new version is KB2840149, but it is unclear as to whether the problems were fully fixed.
For Windows Xp Sp3 the following can't be found
WindowsXP-kb2661254-x86-ENU.exe (it should be WindowsXP-kb2661254-v2-x86-ENU.exe)
dotNetFx40-Full-x86-x86.exe (it should be dotNetFx40-Full-x86-x64.exe so that it applies to both architecture types)
For windows 2000 the following can't be found
WindowsMedia9-kb891122-x86-Global-ENU.exe (it should be WindowsMedia-kb891122-x86-ENU.exe)
Windows-kb890830-v3.5.exe (it should be windows-kb890830-v4.19.exe This version will change almost month to month)
Does windows XP download fle list have the latest Daylight saving time KB file? one could then extract from the XP registry the daylight saving information and replace the one in Windows 2000 to bring this up to date.

ok. I found a video on youtube that shows the black paper thingy near the end of the video which is left of the fan and which is covering the processor at the 3:14 minute mark and on. Now to take the computer apart again.....

I have a v5306US compaq presario de-featured laptop model. The laptop was used and had to be cleaned of dust internally. However, there is a black stiff internal paper that is about the size and shape of the fan outline which was originally in the proximity of the fan. I believe one side of this internal paper had glue on it originally and was attached somehow but isn't sticking now due to all the fine dust/hair etc that collected on it over the years. The compaq maintenance manual for the v5000 series shows me how to take the fan out, but the diagrams and instructions don't explain where or how to put this black piece of paper properly back in the laptop. I believe it may have something to do with air flow ducting since one edge is bent down/up. I've looked at used/new parts on the internet for the top and bottom plastic housings to see if this paper thingy was glued to them and also looked at used/new fans to see if it was glued to the fan itself either on top or the bottom to now avail. So, can someone tell me and show pictures of how this black paper outline of the fan was originally attached at the factory and what it's purpose is? Currently, I put this paper on top of the fan side which faces the bottom of the laptop without gluing it. Now when the computer is running and the fan turns on, it makes a rattling sound as if the paper is flapping against the fan blades.
So if someone has any of the v5 series or compatible models and would check inside their computer for how the black paper is attached and where placed around the fan, it would be of great help....

Now that office 2010 is out, perhaps this forums name should have "/2010" appended to it.

Does anybody know what windows 7 Mondo Blue edition is? Is this a pre-release RC version
and are there any other edition types?
I found reference to 'mindi' too via google, but there doesn't seem to be detailed info on these.

I have a dell gx280 with Intel 915G. This computer is triple boot with XP Pro SP3, Vista Ult SP2, Win 7 Ult.
XP - no problems with 915G driver being installed and being shown in device manager ,and no problem with the
soundmax driver volume being set to 100 percent loudness and trying to play something such that it is very loud as
expected.
Vista - no problems with 915 G driver being installed and being shown in device manager correctly.
Windows 7 - The same 915 G driver is being installed for Win 7 but it aborts with an error message
saying it can't copy this file to the system32 directory. I'm also administrator here and have even
enabled the Adminstrator account and logged into it to try and install it. Here's the error message
in the install log file. Note1: You'll see WINVISTA in the log file below. This is because it is using the
Win 7 compatibility install feature set to VISTA SP2. It doesn't matter which version of Vista or XP I select
for the compatibility install, it errors out at the same spot and reason that it can't copy the file although the
file exists in the temp directory.

NOTE: I noticed that most of the directories under c:\windows (including windows) are owned by
TrustedInstaller; however, under windows 7 it just shows an "S-xxxx-....." number and no name. If I try
to change the ownership and select advanced and 'find' to try to find the TrustedInstaller' name there is
no such name to try and assign to see if this will make a difference in installing the latest 915G driver
from intel. The latest driver version I'm trying to install is Intel 14.25.50.4764 filename. After installing
in Vista it shows 6.14.10.4764;moreover, intel says the default that MSoft uses is 6.14.10.4656 and which
intel states is the 14.17.4656 driver per their website. However, I'm trying to install 4764.

I've installed two sound max driver types for the AC 97 chipset that Dell uses on the gx280.
Dells soundmax_V5.12.1.7010A25.exe (R145551) and Realteks latest version 6305 for AC 97 from
www.realtek.com download website. Either one will install, but when I set the volume control to
100% and hit the volume bar or run a DVD movie with volume also at 100%, the volume is very
low coming out of the PC builtin speakers. (about 5% or less. However, when I test out the stereo
part of the volume control under the volume properties area for left and right speakers at 100%, the volume is the correct loudness of (loud). I've even checked the box for left/right front speakers since I don't have surround sound. Thus, how to correct this also?

No, it must run from an XP system or a Vista system - however, given the specs on your PC, you may want to make sure you have at least 1GB of RAM (your system ships with 128MB by default unless it was upgraded on purchase, and can accept a max of 1.5GB, 512MBx3) and a larger hard disk than the 40GB IDE drive that initially shipped. Also, if you want Aero Glass effects and the DWM features, you'll need a newer video card that is capable of running these (that system shipped with an nVidia Vanta 16MB card initially). The P4/1.8GHz CPU won't be blisteringly fast, but it is enough to run Win7. Just don't expect to multitask with speed as you do on Windows 2000 (or even Windows XP) with that CPU and even 1.5GB of RAM.
I've maxed out the memory to 1.5gigs, added a 1 terabyte drive and have an nvidia TNT2 64 meg which according
to Msoft requires at least 128megs of video memory. I believe the other requirement is to have at least directx 9
capability on the video card, which the TNT2 isn't spec'd for.
So at least from what you've said, I stand a good chance of running win 7 if the video card is upgraded.

I have an old IBM netvista 6794-21U computer running windows 2k pro sp4.
When I try to run windows 7 adivsor v2.0 on it, it complains that it isn't a valid win32 application.
I realize w7 advisor doesn't run on w2k based on msofts site; however, how can I determine if my
old computer will run win 7.
Thus, is there a way to make win 7 adivisor run either from an MSDOS command prompt floppy
or to load as a standalone from a CD/DVD disk which makes it independent of what OS is loaded
on the computer since I wouldn't have to boot into any particular OS that the w7 advisor doesn't like?

Great info. When I first saw this, I assumed MSoft gave out XX amount of copies to each reseller
to stir up interest in Windows 7 and accepted taking a loss and once these were soldout, Windows 7
would be sold at the normal retail price.
Yesterday pricegrabber.com was triggered notifying me of windows 7 ultimate that was below $200.00.
However, this storefront was selling an x32/x64 preactivated non-OEM version for $60. What a steal, and
one person actually bought one. When I looked at the photographed CD covers they posted, it showed only
x32 and also stated "Not for resale". When I emailed the storefront about this, I got an email notification
from pricegrabber stating a reply had been posted, but when I went to read it, it wasn't there - nor was the
storefront anymore.... Hey! to bad that when they scanned the CD cover that they didn't scan the
license # too so that when I blew it up, I could read the license - thus no purchase required then. (yes,
it was preactivated, but maybe other retail sites could do this and save me the trouble of having to purchase it)
Darn...
As for the Promo versions, alot of legit small biz sites are selling software from MSoft ,(and also list
themselves on pricegrabber.com) are selling the Promo versions as full retail for $170.00. So its good to know to
steer clear of this stuff too.
Another pricegrabber.com site www.softwaresurplus.com sells reasonably priced windows 7, but because of the low
cost I emailed them to make sure their website didn't mislabel the product being sold as retail when in fact it is maybe
Academic. The response I got back said their store policy stated all the stuff they sold was Academic. However,
the actual product didn't state this. I searched via google and their site for Academic to find their store policy.
I didn't find any policy let alone reference to Academic. Thus, I emailed them and asked if they could produce the
link so that I could read it for myself. So far, I've got no response. Thus, this site could be misrepresenting
MSoft products under the wrong product type of retail,OEM, Academic.
A big question is on OEM. Quite a few sites infer that it is no different than Retail. Others state that OEM means it
is locked to the computer it is installed on and can't be reinstalled again should your HDD fail on your computer
or if you upgraded your computer and want to move it there. Other sites have a combination of this, for example.
They list Msoft OEM, meaning the product is locked and non-transferable to a new HDD or upgraded computer. Then
they also list Adobe OEM, which they state it is transferable.
Thus, if one is going to purchase OEM software because it is cheaper than retail, and one can do without the
packaging and manuals, then one should email support at the software company that wrote the software and
not the reseller and get their explanation for the particular software product you want to buy - directly from the horses mouth. Make sure one specifies the exact product since the OEM definition may be different across the various products
they sell - don't assume one explanation applies to all of their products.

I can install google toolbar v6.1.x which according to the filename isn't signed. However, when I try to install
the latest version v6.3.1001.1015 x32 signed on my w2k pro sp4 with all the latest patches, it gives a popup
stating "insufficient privelges please contact the system administrator". However, I am the administrator, and
the adm policies are not configured either so this can't be the problem either. Nor is anything written to the
event log even stating that it tried to install the toolbar so that I could see the type of error being generated.
Has anyone run into this problem? Is this version compatible with IE 6sp1 latest version?
On another question. IE6sp1 doesn't have a manage-addons like IE7+. How does one check to see
if the pluggins and toolbars are enabled in the manage-addons section of IE6sp1 assuming there is
some other way to verify this?
Note: I did upgrade the adm templates per the most recent release dated 10/28/2008 for w2k. I also loaded
the Sept 2009 update for rootcerts that XP uses. It didn't tell me if it installed nor did it complain that it
wasn't the right system.
Another question is, MSoft says to remove previous version of adm templates before installing the new ones.
How to do this if they are the original ones from when I installed w2ksp4 before upgrading to this new version?
What type of problems will occur if the earlier version isn't removed first? Is there a complete list of all the
templates one can put on a W2k or Xp system that one can do for the policies or other similar msc files?
I see in XP under computer and the user area of policies that there is a selection for installed software
policies which has selections to choose from, but on w2k they are empty. What template can be used for w2k
to fill this policy section with things to control?
I also didn't change anything within IE6sp1 it self by using a tool like IEAK to restrict the browser functionality either.

I've seen Windows 7 Ultimate x32 on the internet for sale for cheap, but it states it is the promo version and full retail.
What's different about the promo version vs. any other version i.e. OEM vs. retail?
Perhaps it is the CD key. Hopefully, one isn't stuck not being able to transfer it to another
PC in the future if I upgrade the PC.

Can one slip a VISTA OS DVD with the Win 7 upgrade to make a Windows 7 OS DVD?
I realize one may only be able to slip a VISTA Pro with a win 7 Pro disk, but I'd think one
could upgrade any version of VISTA to any version of Win7. That is if I have VISTA Pro,
I should be able to upgrade to Win 7 Home (kinda of a downgrade) or to Win 7 ultimate
and to slip it too. The restriction would be x32 to x32 and x64 to x64.
Is this possible?
What about VISTA to win 2k8? or am i restricted from a server OS such as Win 2k3 to another
server type Win 2k8
