yep i did my research about linux filesystems. xfs seems to be the fastest. with reiser4 in the 2nd place, in my opinion. of course, when stability issues talks, looks like reiserfs and ext3 are fine for most people.

this is a way off windows question. @gdogg im planing to play around with linux. i remember a thread where you mentioned that XFS is faster than EXT3?

this would mean that the themeless version of microwinx is less than 35 @ system32 then? hehe about the EXT3 and XFS filesystems. it would be great if it would run under windows. the best thing about linux is that your flexible. if you know how-to code, you can basicaly make your own distro from scratch.

i can't wait to try out beta 3. assuming pppoe support is enabled! i hope if it is, then i'll give it a shot. i don't need theme support. the only services im expecting to run on beta 3 is network connections, remote access connection manager, telephony, audio serv and the rpc server.

could someone help me reinstall the remote access connection manager? i think i deleted some of it's files during my experiment of removing useless files in xp(thanks to bold fortune's forums). i got network connections, telephony and rpc server services running. i have no idea how to fix this problem. i don't wanna have to reinstall windows xp again. it's quite a headache. im sure i got all telephony (tapiserv) files.

if you have a windows xp cd. boot into the recovery console. copy ntdetect.com from the cd. if you can't boot into the recovery console or copy the file, ask a friend if their willing to help you out by setting up your harddisk in their pc. from their windows, copy the file to your drive.

while your working on the next microwinx release gdogg. im quite busy i guess researching windows service files. im not gonna bother with nlite removing these services. im gonna try deleting these files first after an install of xp. i do hope i find out every file that these services are using. hopefully i can have a functional windows because these services doesn't even run and mess my windows. or i could also use microwinx... hehe i just do this for the fun.

well i did my research about minlogon in the nlite forum. the problem with minlogon that i found out is that it can't save user profiles like desktop settings. i only thing i wanna find out is that a registry entry that will tell minlogon which desktop profile to use. if such thing exists, then i hope it saves profile settings when it's being used.

so by the time beta 3 comes out it'll have dynamic ip support. so pppoe is supported in the release?

i haven't tried doing that. is there a registry entry for minlogon that would specify which profile to use?
