installrite creates a sfx archive, however it seems that wine has problems with the amount of data unpacked by the sfx archive. will have a look at installwatch in some time, thanks for your reply

i need an alternative for installrite (http://www.epsilonsquared.com/). it seems to make a good job, but using wine at linux it's not running like it should, so i'm looking for alternatives - freeware prefered but commercial ons are also ok (in hope that they offer a working trial version).

i made very good experiences with the already mentioned acronis trueimage, what i want to add: at least in germany older version are included in several magazines, so you pay 3 or 4€ instead of 50€. well, it's an older version, but for most users this shouldn't make a difference. and it's also normally cheaper than buying an old version at ebay.
