  1. I know how mad you must be Mine got stolen about 2 months ago after my house was broken into also --and I'd like to think mine was one to write home about. My roommates and I have some very unique tastes in music, and the thieves were dumb enough to steal some of our music DVDs also. We've found a bunch of them in pawnshops. And the pawnshop owners have been co-operative... willing to give IDs to the cops etc... Not to rain on the parade or anything... but even after 2 months now... the cops still haven't even been to the pawnshop to get IDs of the seller. In case the authorities aren't of too much help to you either... I do want to point out that around here.... none of the pawnshops (at least admit to) sell(ing) laptops or any computer equipment. So if you really need to get it back in a hurry (which it sounds like you do)... I'd be talking to any drug-dealers you know already - if you're so fortunate. Not that they'd have anything to do with it... but chances are the people who stole it just want to make a quick dollar... and drug dealers already have tons of contacts who they sell stuff to privately, so I'd think they'd probably be a first stop for any seller if pawnshops out West are anything like how they are out here. I wish you all the best
  2. Thanks Dexter... it's a good install package you've put together. When I try to run it from runonce however it does give me an error. I get a msgbox pop-up with the title Project 1. It says "Run-time error '75': Path/File access error" I proceed to hit OK so my almost UA disk continues... when it's done I do have MSN Messenger installed and working however my Outlook Express no longer functions. When I try to open OE, I get another msgbox titled Identity Switch Cancelled It Says "The current identity was unable to change because one of the applications was unable to switch. Close any open dialog boxes in other applications before trying again." I don't even have to have any other apps / processes running in order to get this message, let alone dialog boxes. And for clarification on that note... of course I do have some processes running, but none of them initated by my current user (Administrator). my runonce script which pertains to MSN Messenger is as follows REG ADD %KEY%\040 /VE /D "MSN Messenger" /f REG ADD %KEY%\040 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\MSNMess\MSNMess.exe" /f and so you know I did rename the .exe Other things you should know - I'm using your second install package - I don't have Windows Messenger as part of my UA Install - By the time it gets to running MSNMess.exe... I have already installed the following 3rd party apps: Ad-Aware Alcohol 120% ATI Control Panel AVG Anti-Virus BS Player Google Toolbar J.A.N.E I'm going to try running it again in a VM using the start /wait prefix to see if that helps, but I'm skeptical. I'm thinking in this last part of my install something is still going on with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express because at the end of my installation, right before my cleanup.cmd I run a shortcuts.cmd which adds a menu to the top of my start menu that divides my commonly used apps up by category... this always fails to copy IE/OE shortcuts. But if I run that ... or your MSNMess.exe after everything has been completed then I run into no problems whatsoever. I don't know if anybody else has run into similar problems... but if anyone could help shed some light on the situation it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  3. I wasn't sure at all, this was my first time formatting since I got this mobo. Thanks again for your help though, you pointed me in the right direction.
  4. No, it's an old 40GB IDE ATA HDD. I think I've now resolved that issue. It seems I needed to use a floppy disk that had RAID ITE Drivers on it. I didn't think this was necessary since I'm not using an array of disks. But after hitting F6 when Windows setup was starting to load RAID drivers, it actually recognizes my HDD. Now that that is cleared up, I've now got some more work to do with my unattended disk... because I didn't have it set up for RAID drivers, and the Windows installer won't let me look on a floppy disk if I'm trying to install from my current UA Disk. Guess I've got some more research to do. Thank you for your reply
  5. I'm having a real tough time with my Unattended disk. I thought everything was working flawlessly based on my tests using a Virtual Machine, but of course that doesn't let me test out my driver installs at all. When I run my UA CD on a Virtual Machine... it's pretty much unattended. Basically only asks me which hard drive I want to use, and how I want to format it. Today I figured I'd give it it's first real test by trying to boot from the CD and actually format my real hard drive and install. At first when I did this, I had my USB2 HDD plugged into my PC and didn't think anything of it at first. This time however, the CD ran completely unattended. I just hit any key on my keyboard to let my computer know that I really did want to boot from a DVD, and it went to town without asking me which hard drive to use or how I wanted to format it. Thankfully it didn't format anything, because it started installing on my USB2 drive. When it completed copying all of the necessary files over to the HDD, it rebooted as usual and Windows started up from my local disk C (fixed drive). Because of this Windows never completed installing on my Removable USB2 drive. I proceeded then to power off my Removable USB2 drive and try to install again from my bootDVD, only to find out that Windows is not even recognizing that I have any HDDs. It tells me setup cannot complete at this time and to hit F3 to exit. Anyone have any clues what could cause this? My HDD is clearly functioning, because if I don't boot from CD/DVD, it will boot from that HDD instead. Thank you for any help you can provide ********** Update ********** Just tried again using a store-bought WinXP CD same problem... so I know it has nothing to do with my UA CD
  6. Just stumbled upon a file that had my QT Registration information in it %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QuickTime\QuickTime.qtp this file changed after I unchecked the option to show the systray icon also, so in theory I think it should accomplish both of the tasks you were inquiring about simply by copying this file back to the appropriate directory after a re-install. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Update ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tried that idea by copying my .qtp file into the aforementioned directory and this did not work... not only is QT not registered like I was hoping, but I still got the tray icon.
