  1. I wanted to do exactly that with XP - setup just right and using the unregisterable generic product codes provided by Microsoft. I tried many different ways but ultimately you come up against problems stemming from differe hardware abstraction layers amongst different chipset problems that would kill my boot dead. A company has come up with a way of doing it that includes a massive driver database as well as HAL independancy somehow. Nifty. But I can't remember the URL Sysprep will do the job, maybe not right down to the very fine details you require though. I now have resorted to my own OEM unattended install, with branding etc in it. And to perform my after-tweaks I'm currently learning the enigma that is "the registry" to perform them. All good fun - if you class late nights, headaches and matchstick-propped-eyelids as fun that is. Chris PS. Just incase you were wondering how much testing I did on this, I really did get deep into it using Symantec's software primarily and scouring every last byte of the internet. I came to learn that simple ghosting for use on any (or even most) machines is accepted as nigh on impossible by the pro community. Think about it - this unattended install part of the site would probably not be here if we could all zap across a universal image! We can but dream...
  2. That's just lovely, I thought I'd survived a Monday without popping any more braincells then you post that lot! Popcorn sounds in my head indicate you owe me 20 replacement braincels. lol
  3. Yeah, I see - don't you hate it when you look so hard you miss the point. I'm sure that would disable it too - but disabling the service is far simpler! ) Tell me though, what is the reason for the sr.sys movement? Also should there be % symbols either side of systemroot or is it as it appears above? One more thing, just for my education - if I changed the service dword value to 3, that would be 'manual' - so should an instance where the service is needed occur - it should flag up a message and allow it to be activated right? Cheers, Chris.
  4. Hiya, thanks for reading. I need to be able to apply these following tweaks to all windows... 1. Icons (Not tiles) 2. Do not show in groups 3. Auto Arrange icons 4. Use Windows classic (No common tasks) 5. Open each folder in its own window Also, it would be nice to autoarrange the desktop and simply turn on quicklaunch easily. Please help, much appreciated Chris
  5. I've noticed alot of people using the reg tweak for disabling the System Restore option... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore] "DisableSR"=dword:00000001 But did you know that this only removes the access to the system restore, and does not stop your system from creating restore points, and that is the whole point of tweaking this for performance impact. Try addign these to stop windows from creating and scheduling restore points instead... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore] "DisableSR"=dword:00000001 "RPSessionInterval"=dword:00000000 "RPGlobalInterval"=dword:00000000 "RPLifeInterval"=dword:00000000 "TimerInterval"=dword:00000000 Zero'ing these out should do the trick, and if you do turn SR back on, it will correct these figures automatically for you. I do hope this is a good note to start on - this being my first post. All the best (what a great place this is btw!) Chris. AKA Supertoast (don't ask!)
