  1. Hi guys I want to install XP on an external USB-IDE drive ONLY. To do so I had to remove the internal drive physically during the installation. The first part of the installation (partitioning, file copy) went fine, but during first boot, I get an BSOD 7B (boot device lost). From what I have learnt, this is caused by an USB reset during boot. Does anybody know if there is a way to prevent windows from resetting the USB controller/bus? The port is an USB 2.0 and so is the external disk cabinet. I have an Dell D800 laptop, and there is no USB options to tweak, except the "legacy" option. That option must be enabled in order to boot from USB at all. Maybe a later version of XP (sp1 or 2) can do without a reset? Anders
