  7. One computer (the 1.5 GHz model) has the Intel D845HV motherboard based on the Intel 845 chipset. The other computer (the 1.6 GHz model) has the MSI MS-6533GL motherboard based on the SiS 650 chipset. Both appear to be socket 478. I'm also thinking about going with a Pentium 4 that's slightly slower (2.4-2.6 GHz) that are cheaper than the SL7EY 2.8 GHz. I've also noticed that a 3.0 GHz P4 exists with a 400 MHz FSB, but at around $200 each, it's out of my price range. the_guy
  8. I looked on ebay, but all of the Pentium 4 processors with the 400 MHz FSB is nowhere near $40. They are closer to $80-$180. Is the big price jump worth getting the pentium 4 or is the celeron ($20-$30) close enough to the same performance? the_guy
  9. I have a computer with a 1.5 GHz processor and another computer with a 1.6 GHz processor, both Willamette core Pentium 4. What route should be done for upgrading, a Pentium 4 or a Celeron. Both computers only work with a 400 MHz FSB, so either way, I'm limited to a 2.8 GHz processor. I know that the P4 has a 512 kb L2 cache while the celeron has a 128 kb L2 cache. My question is, is there a big enough performance difference to justify spending a lot more money on the P4 or can I just purchase the celeron and not suffer a big performance hit? the_guy
  10. I write my last exam tomorrow. After that, I'm free to update. Expect an update by this weekend. the_guy
  11. cryptdlg.dll 5.0.1558.6608 works without a problem on 98se. I'd recommend it get included in the unofficial updates sometime. the_guy
  12. Bug report: Installing the latest beta after installing IE6 SP1 gives an error on Windows Update. Reinstalling IE6 SP1 fixes the issue. the_guy
  13. All three sticks appear to be the same. 2 are CL3, but I'll try the third one later. I'll try memtest sometime soon. the_guy
  14. @puntoMX: I can't tell what stick is at what speed. They appear to be the same. @Ponch: How do I figure out if that's the problem? the_guy EDIT: I just checked page file settings and realized that they were at 384 MB and 768 MB for minimum and maximum. This was a custom setting. Would this cause the blue screens? I'll check today.
  15. There's no setting for lowering the RAM speed. All the modules are 133MHz. Does anyone have any idea? I can always try Memtest86 to see if it is the RAM. the_guy
  16. I updated the chipset drivers, and that didn't work. The motherboard recognizes all 1536MB of RAM. What does the last line mean? I have an intel motherboard, so I think that may be read-only. the_guy
  17. I tried looking at that but that is the way toget their recovery Cd's, complete with Norton crap and the acer utilities that I don't want. I managed to get a disc from someone. the_guy
  18. The motherboard is at the latest BIOS revision. What drivers should I try to update. I believe they're at the latest version. the_guy
  19. I bought 3 512MB sticks of PC133 SD RAM for my D845HV motherboard, but I have a weird problem. I put all three sticks in my computer and the computer won't boot up XP without crashing. Each stick individually works fine but all three sticks at once for some reason crashes it. I currently have 2 of the 512 sticks installed and a 256 stick. Does anyone know what's going on? Is it a RAM issue or a motherboard issue. I don't think it's XP. the_guy
  20. I am planning on posting an update list for x64 installs based on my current lists. If also supported, and ia64 version might also appear. Is this for SP1 and SP2 or just SP2? the_guy

  24. Hey guys, I purchased an Acer laptop last week and, to my surprise, it didn't include any discs. I have tried emailing Acer for the disc and they've put me in circles, trying to tell me that the Vista disc is the recovery disc that includes all of the crap that came with the computer. Does Microsoft sell discs or do I need to keep hounding Acer until they relent? Any help would be appreciated, especially from those who've had this problem and got the disc. the_guy
