try to put more RAM into your WinME computer, -Chris-. WinME works best with at least 256Mb of RAM, which my HP Pavilion computer has. my HP computer with pre-installed ME used to have 64megs of RAM but now it has 256megs (though I may up it to 512Mb a few years from now if the RAM chips get cheaper, my HP computer can handle up to 512Mb of memory). Can't - 160 is the max. Did however upgrade teh CPU to a Pentium 2 400, which was incredibly difficult and now I fully understand why they say laptops aren't upgradeable.

dont worry Chris. many of the problems in beta 7 of the ME SP will be fixed soon. what kind of computer are you using? WinME works best with at least a 500Mhz Pentium 3 with 128Mb or 256Mb of RAM. It's a Pentium II 266 w/ 160MB of RAM. Slow, but it gets the job done for what I need. Glad to hear the problems are being worked out - is there no way to fix the broken DLLs in the meantime or would that be more trouble then it's worth? Thanks! Chris.

I have an older computer that has a piece of hardware that has drivers for the VxD model, thus requiring a 9x install - I install Windows ME on this machine (i know boo hiss I feel the hate - I personally think Me has a few advantages over 98 such as the Windows 2000 TCP/IP stack, ect and as buggy as ti can be I think it can be worthwhile on certain machines) - Anyway, I installed the Windows ME 2.02 Unofficial Service Pack (beta 7) and of course broke the DLLs mentioned earlier in this thread, from what I gather is an incorrect version of a hotfix - leaving Windows Update and certain other IE functionality broken. I'm curious as to what files I need to replace with what versions to fix this. It's a great update pack - just need to take that hotfix out, hehe . USB 1.1 support can be attained on some chipsets with the USB Supplement to OSR 2.x and there ARE WiFi cards that support 9x, all teh way back to 95. It can still be productive - I still use it (in addition to NT3.51 & NT4) on my older computers, especially 486's.

GAIM (up to and including the latest 2.0-beta5) works fine on Windows NT 4.0+ on the NT side & Windows 98+ on the 9x side. You will need to use an older version of the GTK+ runtime as the current does not support 9x - afaik, GTK 2.6.10-20050823 was the last version to support 9x (and NT4). It does work, I have tested it.
