  1. It's difficult to say due to the randomness of the problem. nLite was used to slipstream SP2 + the hotfix pack and to also remove some of the XP components such as games and system restore etc. Before we used nLite, we just used to install XP, then put on SP2 then manually download hotfixes. Next we'd sysprep it and make a ghost image for moving between PC's. Using that method, I'd never heard of this happening. The problem happens immediately after they type their password and hit the enter key. If they are lucky, they see the desktop for about 2 seconds with whatever apps were open before they locked/left the workstation, but more usually, they just see the "saving your settings" message which then stays on screen. I've left one for over 1 hour on this screen before giving it the finger and powering on again. Thing that is making this a nightmare to trace/fix is the number of factors at play. It's by no means a big problem yet, but I just don't like loose ends. We've so far put this image on over 450 PC's and have only heard of 3 reports of this problem. Wondering if it could it be.... Something nLite has done? Another part of the XP build? Apps that are running when screensaver/powersave activate? We use WSUS to deploy all XP hotfixes, could a hotfix have tried to reboot during powersave? Are there some BIOS power management settings at play? Does their network connection drop? Any clues/pointers? Thanks for your interest James
  2. Hi We have an intermittant problem affecting a few random PC's on our network. nLite PC build Windows XP SP2 Hotfixes Pack Novell Client 4.91 Novell ZENworks 6.5 Very occasionally, when someone returns to their workstation after lunch or a meeting, they press CTRL+ALT+DEL to unlock the workstation, type in their password and the PC almost immediately goes to the "Saving your settings" window and then stays there until it is powered off completely. The mouse pointer moves, but nothing done on the keyboard has any effect. Nothing in event logs either. Any clues as to what's going on here? Screensaver is set to 20mins and monitor standby set to 30mins. Thanks James Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on. --Zxian
  3. Hi Everyone On our companies standard image, I just want ALL the folders under my computer and windows explorer to default to the details view when they are opened. I thought Bill would have done some kind of helpful registry key like... HKLM\....\ShowDetailsForAllFoldersNotJustTheOnesYouFeelLikeShowing=1 ...but NO , instead I've been having to mess around with bags and streams ?!?? So far, I've had limited success in that when you open My Computer, and then the 'C' drive and then some of the folders, the view is details, but when you get so far down...PING back to icons . Also, we use Novell, and it would seem that viewing any of the network drives through Explorer or My Computer just shows icons. I've customised the XP image that I'm using so that the default user NTUSER.DAT has the following in the registry. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong, or if there is an easier way to achive what I'm trying to do. 4. Hi all Does anyone know of a workaround to this annoying situation Scenario: 1) Used nLite to produce a customised XPSP2 install CD+drivers and hotfixes etc. 2) Create a "universal" sysprepped image that works on all our current hardware- HP Deskpro EN, EVO500, EVO510, EVO530, DC7100 and maybe the 7600's when we get them. 3) "Universal" sysprepped image then copied to our Novell ZEN imaging server using PXE Result: We can now deploy the "universal" image to any PC on our network using PXE (provided PXE has been enabled in the bios) without having to visit or do anything after the image has been delivered. B) Problem: At the end of the sysprep.inf, I'm calling a runonceGUI script that installs the UPHcleaner, Novell Client plus ZENworks agent and Windows Messaging. The problem is that on workstations that are different to the one I used to create the image (D530), part way through the script, a nice message appears saying that new hardware has been detected "Disk Drive" and the suggestion to the user is that they click YES to reboot the workstation. Trouble is, as this usually happens about ½ way through the Novell client install so if they did click YES, the workstation would be about as useful as a workstation with ½ a Novell client. When this goes live to our 8000 users, we could try and educate them to just leave everything alone until they see the Novell login prompt. From past experience though, someone is bound to give into temptation and take the 'yes' pill. Can the message be hidden or disabled, or if not, is there a way of just sending it to the back of the other windows? Any views/tips/suggestions gratefully received James
  5. I use setupnw.exe /ACU /U:settings.txt and make sure that in the settings.txt file, there are the following entries Under [NovellNetWareClientParameters] !AcceptLicenseAgreement=YES Under [setupNWInstallOptions] !DisplayInitialScreen=NO
