  1. Can someone please read below and tell me what this means and how to do it? I dont know much about computers so your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch everyone. If you use a personal firewall or a broadband router, or if there are routers or firewalls between the VPN client and the VPN server, the following ports and protocol must be enabled for PPTP on all firewalls and routers that are between the VPN client and the VPN server: Client ports Server port Protocol 1024-65535/TCP 1723/TCP PPTP Additionally, you must enable IP PROTOCOL 47 (GRE).
  2. I'm trying to setup a VPN. Do I need a VPN router to do this? Is there anything else i'll need in order to make this work? Thanks!
  3. My employee is trying to connect to my laptop through a VPN. My computer is set to accept incoming VPN connections. When he try's to connect however, he gets an error: "Error 800: Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not bbe configured properly for this connection." We are both behind routers, and I dont think the IP is being forwarded. Does this matter? Do we need "VPN routers"? Thanks for the help everyone. B)
  4. Thanks for the help dman. Aparrently he is getting an "error 800". It says it cannot establish the VPN connections. He is behind a router, does this matter?
  5. It's only one person for now. Will the above process work since he will be connecting to my PC from his home? He is about 45 minutes away from here so I thought he would have to connect through the internet somehow. Am I on the righ track here?
  6. I need to setup my computer as a server to host files for my business. I just need to share one folder which will contain all files for my business. I also need my employees to be able to connect to my computer so they can access, edit, and create files on my computer within the shared folder. I've been told that I need a static IP and a domain. Is this true? What else do I need to make this work? I know almost nothing about servers so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
  7. Ok. I've added a PW. One thing i've noticed though is that I can't edit any documents on the FTP. I have to do a "save as" if I want to save something. This is quite an inconvenience. Is there anyway to get around this?
  8. Can I use the same FTP that I use for my website? Sorry for my ignorance. I'm just learning about computers.
  9. My business partner, who lives about an hour away, has a computer that we want to use as the central location for all of our files. So, basically, I need access to the files on his computer. I need to upload, download, open, save, create, and delete files on his computer. All of our information will be stored in a single folder on his hard drive that we can share. I guess it will basically be like a network at your workplace. What do I need to set this up? We thought maybe we could use the Remote Desktop connection, or a VPN. We both have XP Professional.
  10. New here...Just saying hello.
