Cool thanks! I will take a look at it. I didn't know about this free version of an installation monitor. Thanks Sonic! That's very close to what I am looking for. Just got to read up on it. Thanks again to all. I was very doubtful I would find what I was looking for. Majoram

Cool thanks but that's not quite what I wanted. Basically I'm looking for something that would be able to identify when a service was added to the list in services.msc. Say I installed a couple programs, then I would run this "miracle tool" and it would say the following services were added today. Or it would list all services and I can pick out the most recent services that were added by checking their dates/times compared to when I installed the programs. It's just hard to remember that whole list in services.msc and to then pick out the ones I don't recognize each time I install a bunch of programs. Thanks for the sc.exe command though. Cool stuff!

Are there tools that can check windows to see if any new services are installed after you install a new application? Thanks, Majoram

No pity required. I can admit my dumb mistakes. Thanks for the info!

I can't seem to find anything on installing ATI Multimedia Center. Does anyone have any information on it? Such as silent install, configuring etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

I did some searching but couldn't find much information on installing ATI tv tuner drivers and such. Specifically I have the ATI TV Wonder card and there are the card drivers plus the dao/mdac drivers? that need installing. With the card I drivers I figure I shouldn't have a problem. The card will get detected and I'll have the drivers on the CD for the unattended install to pick it up. Now what about that dao/mdac stuff that ATI requires to have installed first? How do I go about getting those in? And does it matter if they get installed before or after the card drivers? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Where to get detailed descriptions of [Components]

Maybe if I make enough headway I can do a full list and post it. Wonder if it would matter to anyone though? -
Where to get detailed descriptions of [Components]
Majoram replied to Majoram's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yup I read the unattended site already as well. It's got most of them. I found out what Application Server console is from microsoft though. Application Server console: provides a central location from which you can administer your Web applications. To open the Application Server console, in Manage Your Server, click Manage this application server. That finally makes more sense to me. Now I know it seems safe to disable at least. Thanks for the advice at least. I figure trial and error would be my only choice in the end. -
Hi, I'm just setting up my winnt.sif file for an unattended install and I'm try to understand (for curiosity and for tweaking) the items listed under the [Components] section. I know nLite can remove most things manually. I still want to know though. I have also tried searching these forums and googling and everything i've found is mostly vague for the more obscure stuff. I have also read the ref.chm file as well. Anyone know where I can find something somewhat more descriptive? Examples: 1. chat - Specifies whether to install the Chat feature. huh?? what chat feature? commandline or application? 2. appsrv_console Specifies whether to install the Application Server Console. ok this one I can tell it seems important but i'm curious what it does or what is dependent on it. Any ideas , links etc would be appreciated!

Unattended Install to multi-part's and multi HD's
Majoram replied to dostrander's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
The only thing I can think of requires some input from you. There is a setting in the Unattended.txt / winnt.sif file where you specify the partition. There is an option where if windows is found on a partition then setup will install on the next available partition. Now basically u do a normal unattended CD and have it do the setup. It will of course reboot a couple times but u let it do it's thing. The problem is once the setup is done, how do u get the comp to reboot a final time on it's own. Then once it reboots and you get the "Press any key to boot from CD...." message, then u press a key and the setup process begins all over again but on a different partition The final problem now is how/when do you identify a partition and then install a specific set of applications for that partition??? Those are my ideas, which are by no means well thought out Maybe u can make something out of it. -

Manual integration vs RyanVM Packs
Majoram replied to Majoram's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
D - O - H - ! Thanks again RyanVM! Guess I should learn to read huh?! From what I've figured out, in simple terms, your packs are the result of extracting all the hotfixes and replacing the the equivalent files in the install CD? i.e. no CABs or CATs or whatever it is that /integrate puts in /svcpack dir Thanks again! (Where in the world do you get the time to answer all these posts???) -
Hey all, Other than the work involved in installing and collecting the fixes, what is the difference between RyanVMs stuff and manual integration? i.e. Size difference? File difference? Any details are welcome! I'm just curious. Thanks Majoram

Unattended and Windows Activation
Majoram replied to Majoram's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Cool thanks! Just was curious. Majoram -
Is it possible to do an unattended install using a "normal" retail version of Windows XP Pro? Basically I am just curious if it's possible because of Windows Activation. Thanks!

@Majoram The commercial version that my company has tried to purchase is not free. Which of our expectations do you find ridiculous? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was referring to those who wanted the free copy. No offense meant to those who bought it. Then you have a reason to be disgruntled.

Checked your mail lately? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not within the last hour or so. Just checked it...Got the email! Thanks!
-
Forgot something again Just FYI. I sent in my request to you for the free version today Thanks!

Cool thanks Alanoll! That's pretty much all the info i needed PS Oh wait it's not. Is there a thread or user manual for XPCREATE? (Other than what is on the site that is). btw I've read some of those bashing threads on GM. Good work putting those in their place. Seriously the guy does it for free, it is really ridiculous when people expect so much for something that's free.

HotFixes: Using both SVCPACK.INF and /integrate
Majoram replied to Majoram's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Muchas Gracias Senor RyanVM! (currently on some back pain pills, ahhh sweet bliss) -
Hello, I'm just curious. What does the commercial version of XPCREATE give you? From the site it just says that the plugins download the hotfixes etc and does some repackaging. Is there any other functionallity other than that? Any info appreciated. Thanks! PS Just in case you are wondering why, I would not mind buying it if it gave enough extra tools that are useful

HotFixes: Using both SVCPACK.INF and /integrate
Majoram replied to Majoram's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Ahhh so you lost both needed and obsolete but your packages only contain the needed ones right? As for the "hidden" ones, does that mean the Stickied Hotfixes list in this forum does not list all of the fixes required? Thanks! Majoram -
HotFixes: Using both SVCPACK.INF and /integrate
Majoram replied to Majoram's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Nope, well sorta no. I assume you are referring to my second try that I just posted. All I used was IcemanND script (see my original post) to integrate the hotfixes. I didn't remove/add anything or use any other scripts/files etc. Any ideas what is going wrong? Thanks!
