  1. Forgive me if this is old information but if my search attempts are anything to go by, I don't have anything to worry about. I've finally removed, IMHO, the useless Thumbnails View from Windows 2000. I use Irfan View to meet my image handling needs. I tracked the Thumbnail view down to this location in the registry. Simply remove it and you will instantly notice the Thumbnails View option is no longer avilable. If the option is still showing up in Explorer, you will have to log out then log back in. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ExtShellViews\{8BEBB290-52D0-11d0-B7F4-00C04FD706EC}] You can also remove the "View as Web" from ExtShellViews by removing the other Key. (I only found two off a fresh install.) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ExtShellViews\{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}] As far as I can tell, you can also unregister "thumbvw.dll" and maybe even delete. I'm not sure if anything else needs this. Please confirm. As for Windows XP... the Thumbnail view appears much more embeded then it was with Windows 2000 because the above methods do not work.
  2. First time poster, long time lurker. I followed the instructions for slipstreaming and they worked great on the first try. However, I had one error with DirectX9c. After starting into the desktop and after running 'dxdiag' I would recive error boxes complaining about my dsound.dll. Upon further inspection I noticed that the dsound.dll was not updated properly. The current dsound.dll (which was also in the i386 dir compressed as a cab dsound.dl_) was 5.0.2165.1. When I checked a 2nd machine with DX9c (updated the slow way) it says dsound.dll should be version 5.3.1.904. Because I disabled SFC, I copied the newer dll onto my computer and now it's right as rain. Dsound.dll 5.3.1.904 can also be found in the dxnt.cab from the directx_9c_redist.exe. I should also note that I ran nLite on the SOURCESS folder to assist in removal of programs, however, the dsound.dll was already the impropper version before doing so. It was simple enough to fix my install cd image, just repacked the proper dsound.dll and placed it into the i386 folder. Wanted to make everyone aware of this. edited unclear sentence
