  1. just a guess but worth a try since no1 else responded... 1. go to control panel 2. network connections 3. right-click your connection, choose properties 4. advanced tab, settings... button (bottom right) 5. add a service, call it ICQ, address login.icq.com, port 5190 TCP
  2. this is how - incase any1 else has the prob 1. Start menu, then Run.. 2. type regedt32, press enter 3. navigate to this folder - hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/windowsupdate 4. right-click on the windowsupdate folder, then click permissions... 5. put check marks in the "allow" boxes for both administrators & system 6. click ok, the exit the editor Windows update will run fine now -- enjoy!!!
  3. fixed it myself finally. Had to do with enabling permissions on a folder in the registry. works line a charm now
  4. I know that windows update works for a majority of users, an it worked fine for me on my first install of XP. After a cd drive problem, i reformatted & reinstalled, now I get a administrator only error & never make it to the scan for updates screen. It gives a "solution" but it doesnt make a difference. Thing is my account is listed as computer administrator so why would this error occur? Only thing i could think of is that maybe i accidentally didnt accept the certificates it wants to install, but i dont remember doing this. Any1 have any ideas, b/c there is a small minority of people who are having this problem. thanks for any help. ht*p://www.proud-x.com/~xpforum/attachment.php?s=&postid=4834 K22 please dont post active links do like this...
