  1. Translation (By Babelfish):

I have a W2K question: After I install W2K, all is normal. But after I update IE6 with SP1 Chinese edition, I get two problems: the control panel won't open, and in IE, the right mouse button doesn't work (the context menu doesn't pop up). Please help a Chinese brother out with a reply, or send an e-mail to xzhm@vip.sina.com. Thanks.
  2. @boooggy - I have to figure out what goes on with WU/MSURP1 before I release any rebuilt stuff.  ;)

@At0mic - You're welcome - hopefully I'll be able to finish the Unofficial SP5 soon.  I didn't have it ready monday as expected (well, guess more than a few people noticed - sry), but that's only because there was still room for "improvement."

@pene - There's something odd going on with this MS URP / WU.  I'm investigating it; I do have quite a few theories on this already....

As I said before, when I tested it, the rollup still showed up on Windows Update even though it had already been integrated prior to install. So yeah there's something odd going on. Like MS messed up their own URP maybe?

  3. I'm sorry I just assumed you guys would know more about it then I do. The name of the project is: Windows XP POWER LiTE 1.74, subtitled: with memory controler from Windows 2k3 Server... It's definately not the "Mindows Project"...

The guys web site here was dead for a while but now doesn't appear to be the original site...     I found the file on bittorrent, the actual file name is Windows_XP_PLD_1.74.exe (335.79Kb) it's a RAR installer that contains NTLDR, a reg file, and some other stuff (can't remember what all)...

I didn't have Windows XP installed at the time I downloaded it, don't read Polish, thought what little there was in English sounded very compelling but didn't trust the whole affair and deleted the thing...  I've since learned the same guy made something called Windows 2002 Optimizer...

And that folks is all I know...

    :}

    I was close though... :thumbup

  4. On a totally unrelated note there is a Polish guy that created a patch that replaces the Windows XP memory manager with the Server 2003 memory manager that apparently improved XP boot time and applicaton performance... I wonder if this same method would work on Windows 2000 and offer similar performance improvement.  The files were taken from an SP or hotfix apparently but all the documentation is in Polish so it's pretty hard to see what he's actually doing but there were some favorable fourm posts about it.

    Link?

I am pretty sure he is talking about the Mindows Project, which started out as Minxp, but stemmed from a thread concerning the minimization of the System32 folder to a very small size.

    Link: Mindows Project

  5. Update:  Unofficial SP 5 works perfectly with nLite ;)

SP5 is not yet perfect however.  I'm going through a few hundred registry settings with a toothcomb to make sure everything is at least 100.7% correct.

Maybe I should look into slipstreaming the IC package (IE6) as the first thing when SP5 is done...

"Stay tuned" - FINAL RELEASE BEFORE MONDAY (ouch -- my ears....)

Did you do it as a Service Pack or as a Hotfix? If I'm not mistaken nLite will do it either way.

  6. If there's an official one, why do you need this unofficial one? Maybe it's been brought up before, but I haven't the time to read twenty pages :D.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out ;). BTW are you sure claiming Microsoft is the publisher of the pack is legal?

We need an unofficial one because even with this new official rollup, Windows Update detects 11 Critical Updates and 4 Recommended Updates for Windows 2000. There are even more because after installing those and rebooting, it detects updates for those updates

We also want to be able to slipstream things like Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, DirectX 9.0, and a bunch of other stuff too. One way to do that is to "package" these components as "hotfixes" and then integrate them into an installation source tree.

BTW I don't think Gurgelmeyer is claiming that Microsoft is the publisher of this Unofficial Rollup. He may be using a similar file-naming scheme, but it is definitely labelled URP (Unofficial Rollup Package)

  7. What's next? Have you updated the download page yet? I don't want to waste any of your bandwidth downloading it if it's the same file as before.

BTW good job on getting /integrate to work. Must've been one hell of a bit of work getting it set just right.

  8.  I looked and didn't see the answer to this anywhere.  Is there a way to create a winnt.sif fullunattended and either rename the Administrator or name the administrator a username so that under C:\Documents and Settings directory "Administrator" is not there and in it's stead another name, who is the Administrator is there?  TIA

I know for a fact that with nLite, you can rename the Administrator account to whatever you want. Mine is labelled the same as my MSFN handle, slippykillsticks.

  9. Some hotfixes from WU will be in the MS URP1.  The MS URP supports /integrate.  I'm working on /integrate support for my own URP.

IE60SP1, DX9C, WMP9, MSI31, MSXML*, MDAC*, NETFX11, etc etc (there's a more comprehensive list some pages back) including latest SPs and QFEs from WU (and a few extra ones for IE6) for those are exactly the components which I intend to join in the Option Pack.  The Option Pack will support /integrate too - that's why I'm repacking everything as Type1 fixes.  At the moment they are separate components, but they will be joined later on.  I might keep IE6 available as a separate component too.

    -Gurgelmeyer

PS - I'm not sure what to do with BITS20 (it will definately not be in my URP).  Also Messenger is just about the only thing I haven't planned for the Option Pack.  Should I include it?

First of all, thanks again for your hard work. :)

Second, you should definitely make BITS 2.0 available and /integratable, whether you include it in your URP or as a seperate option.

I consider Messenger to be bloatware, as I'm sure many here do. It would be nifty if you could leave it as a standalone pack - i.e., do not include it in the option pack (or at least don't make it mandatory when installing or integrating the option pack.

Third, how is the /integrate progress coming? Have you encountered any difficulties that we might be able to help you with?

Again, thanks and keep up the good work! :D

  10. Phew - got myself another week to work on /integrate.  I might change the Update Pack to install as a supplemental service pack rather than a hotfix - there are too many errors in UPDATE.EXE when it runs in "hotfix mode", but it behaves perfectly when running in "service pack mode".  If I added SP4 I could even make a real SP5 - but I won't :D

    Cool. Keep us posted :)

  11. Update:

At the moment it seems, that it might - after all - be possible to support the /integrate: option.

Because of all the work I'm putting into this, the next Update Pack (Unofficial Rollup 1) build won't be ready tuesday.

But you'll rather wait a few more days and have /integrate - am I right?

    Best regards

    Gurgelmeyer

If you need the time, take it. :thumbup

  12. @Ghostrider - Yep - I'll have a solution before the MS URP hits the web!

As soon as Microsoft decides to release their URP, I'll have mine available an hour later or so; it will include many more hotfixes than any previous version, AND it will include the final MS URP itself.  :)

Will we be able to slipstream it into a source share using /integrate? :blushing:

  13. If I already have a slipstreamed $OEM$ install CD can i add these files to the install under RunOnceEx and if so what switches should i use..???

Try running one of the files from a command line and use "/?" as a switch (without the quotes obviously). I think it give /passive, /quiet, and /norestart as some options that you might try.

I've tried slipstreaming directly with /integrate:[sOURCE SHARE] to no avail. I think gurgelmeyer is working on a way to slipstreaming properly called NTGRATE.

Good luck with your slipstream. :D You might want to also try out a reduction tool such as nLite.

  14. I dunno how to break the bad news, but...it has been very stressful to keep this project up with the demands of the forums and I have lost some motivation, so for now I'm taking err...a "break" from this project.

We didn't mean to stress you out. We're just a bunch of goofballs trying to do something crazy with our computers.

We know how it is though -- sometimes crap can just friggin' stress you out. Chill out for now and we'll catch you later. Thanks for your ideas and work though. :D

  15. the MS URP1 when it becomes available - I'm ready to include it in a complete rebuild when it hits the web - just give me 1 hour

Any idea when they will release it yet?

BTW you are a genius. I read this thread from the beginning and the buildup to URP1 was so exciting I had to try very hard not to skip to page 14 immediately.

Thanks for your hard work and keep it up! :D
