There's Windows Home OEM media floating around on the net. Get on one of the torrent sites and download it. As long as it's a OEM version of Home it should accept the key off the computer. As well you shouldn't. This type of discussion is not allowed here. I wasn't condoning pirating software. I just suggested downloading the media. But obviously in uptight Microsoft land torrents aren't a means of distributing media. Guess ya better call HP. <rolleyes> <cough download linux>

Is there a way to change the command bar color in windows explorer? I hate the baby blue color. I'd like it back to what Vista was.

He's not violating anything. As long as he uses the key that comes with the other computer. He's just trying to use the media.

Ok I have some code that I wrote awhile ago and had to move server. I'm getting a strange error unable to fork. Which of course my first instict was permissions. So I went to cmd.exe cmd32.exe temp directory and then the executables that I'm trying to execute and get them full access. Still unable to fork. I then read a post that you have to inscrease the memory size for php so I increased that still getting the same error... I'm stuck I can't figure out what else to look for. Anybody have any sugestions? peace wyldeone

I have the ATI XPRESS200M and install the 5308 drivers or Vista and I'm still not getting the glass effect. It is doing animations and stuff like that but I'm not getting full Aero. Am I missing something? I know my card is supported just Vista isn't doing the glass part.

The strange thing about this.. is if I go into the .default user... The settings are right.... however if I create a user it doesn't apply the settings it makes em 05 also...

I don't care about those settings....to be honest... I just did a search for all those icons and copied and pasted the regfile.....I know how they are created... those aren't my problem.

I tried that what I get to the desktop after install it changes the 07 to 05...

Is there a way to apply UserPreferencesMask @ cmdlines.txt? I'm trying to do the following but whenever I get to the desktop for some reason it's not applying it to the users [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "UserPreferencesMask"=hex:9e,1e,07,80 I'm trying to apply the 07 to make the menus flat... What I did was with the machine with StyleXP is selected everything I wanted then saved the Theme and copied it to my unattend CD. Is this what you mean?

I have a strange problem.... I'm using a theme installed with stylexp and I'm getting a different look than with an unattended registry install, on my context menus.... I've dug or almost 2 full days now and can't find settings to change it.... Even tried the regshot and still can't find this... I'll give this a try... I tried the about regedit32.exe to regedit and still didn't work also tried regedt32.exe with no luck....I'll post back here if this was the problem.

For some reason cmdlines.txt isn't working either.... I put the cmdlines.txt file in the $oem$ directory and nothing is getting changed. I'm looking for the best spot to put registry tweaks so the icons show up on the desktop etc. when I first login after the install is complete. I tried to do a REGEDIT /S in winnt.sif and it doesn't seem to be working. I also tried the RunOnceEx but that doesn't do it til after I reboot. I'd like the installation process to finish and come up with my changes right away if possible. Any help or direct to the the right information would be great. peace Troy

It works on a server thats not a Domain Controller... Thats why I'm trying to see if there is a way to do it on a DC.

Get a small VPN server program and setup a VPN server to your network then youd can connect to it from and remote station and they will act like they are on your machine. If you just looking for remote control, if you have xp pro enable the remoting under control panel/system and then you can remote using terminal services. peace wyldeone

Hello, I just found this forum and must say it's been very helpful. I'm having a problem with getting a customized windows xp install to go. All I'm trying to do is replace the uxtheme.dll with the one that'll let me run custom themes. Then set the theme to my own theme that I picked. And then put some machine specific drivers on. However after it copies all the files over on the text screen and reboots I it errors out and the log shows this. Error: The signature for Windows XP Professional Setup is invalid. The error code is 800b0100. No signature was present in the subject. Fatal Error: Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information. Any help with this would be great! Thanks in advance for any help. peace Troy
