First and foremost, thanks for finding this stuff out. I had heard about a floppy setup, I'm guessing that revolves around setting the username and key and some really really basic info fields for the XP install, but when I saw this on www.tweaktown.com I was like, "WTF?!?" So I checked out your site and the subdivision that contained the unattended xp install...man oh man, I was amazed. This is GREAT GREAT stuff. At first I thought it would be a tutorial and having XP install itself without any help. I thought this was kickass...then I remembered the 3+ hours going into installing and configuring drivers, programs, and other little cosmetic tweaks..... Obviously, I was blown away when I saw that you guys had other apps such as silent install of drivers, registry settings, winamp, office, etc etc etc. Man, this is some great s***! I of course had to hit up the forums to see what problems others were having so that I may avoid them, before I even attempt to burn the cd. I'm rather pleased with this forum and the "community" Everyone seems to have a general feeling for helping each other out. Well, I hope to offer my know-hows and how to's to others, but for tonight I have a few questions: winnt.sif ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS Repartition=Yes UnattendSwitch="Yes" WaitForReboot="No" DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore OemPnPDriversPath="Drivers\Nvidia\;Drivers\Modem\" [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="*****" EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=4 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductKey=***** FullName="*****" OrgName="" ComputerName=***** [Display] BitsPerPel=32 Xresolution=1024 YResolution=768 Vrefresh=75 [TapiLocation] CountryCode=1 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=760 [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=@HOME [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=No [NetAdapters] Adapter1=params.Adapter1 [params.Adapter1] INFID=* [NetClients] MS_MSClient=params.MS_MSClient [NetServices] MS_SERVER=params.MS_SERVER [NetProtocols] MS_TCPIP=params.MS_TCPIP MS_NWIPX=params.MS_NWIPX [params.MS_TCPIP] DNS=Yes UseDomainNameDevolution=No EnableLMHosts=Yes AdapterSections=params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter1 [params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter1] SpecificTo=Adapter1 DHCP=Yes WINS=No NetBIOSOptions=0 [params.MS_NWIPX] VirtualNetworkNumber=00000000 AdapterSections=params.MS_NWIPX.Adapter1 [params.MS_NWIPX.Adapter1] SpecificTo=Adapter1 PktType=0xFF NetworkNumber=00000000 [Components] msnexplr=off zonegames=off [Branding] BrandIEUsingUnattended=Yes [URL] Home_Page=about:blank [Components] msnexplr=off zonegames=off [GuiRunOnce] %systemdrive%\install\main_batch.cmd %systemdrive%\install\applications.cmd %systemdrive%\install\tweaks.cmd %systemdrive%\install\dllhack.cmd %systemdrive%\install\shutdown.cmd My questions here are: 1. I have seen that GuiRunOnce was located in other places, does it matter where I have it??? 2. I have an nForce 2 motherboard, and because the mobo is newer than XP, it does not have any default drivers for my onboard nic, sound, etc etc etc. If I go to install any network adapters, I have to wait for XP to be fully installed and then I can install my drivers, adn then it will recognize my nic card...if you look in the code, I want it to install ipx/spx and tcp/ip stuff for my network. Will my drivers be copied over and install BEFORE it gets into setting up windows? I'll explain it better if you have a problem with it. 3. Where it says autopartition, I set that to NO, does that mean I have to choose where I want it to install XP (C: or D:)? If I choose YES, will it default to C: ? 4. I have it set to repartition YES, this means that it will partition that chosen drive in the ntfs format, correct? 5. Would everything work fine in this file if I made those changes or should I make some more? P.S. - As a side question....I have it set to autolog me in the administrator account, only because nobody has found a way to auto setup another user account, log into that one. Because everything under the $OEM$ and $1 folders get copied to the hard drive, this means that your batch files get copied there as well. It could have the winnt.sif file autologin into the admin and run the first batch file, the first batch file could create a "Joe-Schmo" account and make a "run once" entry in the msconfig file, reboot the computer and log into the "Joe-Schmo" account, run that "run once" entry....which would point to another batch file, that then runs your "application.cmd" file, then in turn runs the rest of your .cmd files, where the last file deletes temp files and runs the shutdown process. This sounds EXTREMELY lengthy and like some crazy orgy for a programmer....in my head it sounded very kick a** and very realistic. If you are not sure as to what I am saying, I will post another reply with my exact plans stepy by step. I'm gonna work on it right now. I have it all planned out, if someone knows the command to make an admin (Joe-schmo) account from a batch file, that would be great if you could post it here, then I could sort it out and possibly test it. Anyways....Thank you for taking the time to read through this, I know I write alot, I just like to give all the information possibly, because I know that I'm not the only person who has these type questions (I might be about the joe-schmo account question tho) and would hope that when someone comes across this post they might get some questions answered. Well, have a great night and once again, thanks for the time and patience.
