that's what I though and did, but during the mirgration , the new 2003 server keep looking for the PDC of the old domain, so I thought maybe I should make the 2nd 2000 server in old domain PDC first then I can complete the migration job. any suggestion?

hi, my PDC 2000server is old,and I try to replace it , the other 2000 server domain controller is still reponse for login and create new user account, trust ..., but I find the "Domain controller security policy"and "domain security policy" is not working, how can I make this domain controller totally replace the PDC? I tried to transfered 5 FSMO to the other DC, but I get these kinds message in event viewer: The checkpoint with the PDC was unsuccessful. The checkpointing process will be retried again in four hours. A full synchronization of the security database to downlevel domain controllers may take place if this machine is promoted to be the PDC before the next successful checkpoint. The error returned was: The RPC server is unavailable. (I checked RPC & RPC locator ,they are all running,and even I restart them ,still same) The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from QUEENS to QUEEN for c:\winnt\sysvol\domain using the DNS name queens.rcd.com. FRS will keep retrying. Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning. [1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name queens.rcd.com from this computer. [2] FRS is not running on queens.rcd.com. [3] The topology information in the Active Directory for this replica has not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers. No Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller is available for domain X3D. The following error occurred: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. (I restarted Netlogon service,it still same.) Security policy in the Group policy objects are applied successfully. Replication of license information failed because the License Logging Service on server queens.x3d.com could not be contacted. any indea? thanks in advance!

hi, recently I have to design and implement a new media size company network(50+ users) , all the workstation is windows 2000 or xp pro, can anybody have experience in this field can give me any suggestion of the whole company network layout,and what kind firewall equipments and antivirus softeware is fit for a media size comany, and if my boss prefer linux and free bsd as firewall, what version is the best and installion and configuration informaion. thanks!

hi, I try to migrate my 2000 server domain to a new 2k3 server domain, I get problem with password migration. I did set up a password export server as the ADMT help documents, (my migrationssouce server and export password server is win2k with sp4, 128bit encryption pack & Pwdmig.exe installed,changed AllowpasswordExport entry in regedit, reboot the server) but I still get a error:"uable to establish a session with the password export server".can someone help me out? also another question is: can roaming pofile be migrated? thanks in advance!

I did what you said, I choose the "standard primary " type as the replicate DNS Zone for the w2k3 server domain from the w2k server's DNS server,but it looks not right cause only two records inside new replicate DNS Zone:their type is "start of Authority" and "Name server", and I create a Host A record inside ,point to w2k3 server's DNS server. but it still not resolve the "domain can't contact problem",I can't create a trust from w2k server side. oppositly, the replicate DNS Zone I create in w2k3 server side is fine, looks normal, has all record,and I'm able to create a 2 two trust from it. can you tell me why? thanks!

hi, I get problems during migrate my 2000 server domain to a new 2003 server domain, when I try to build trust between these 2 domain, it always say: "domain cannot be contacted" , actually I can browse each ohter domain, and can access their shared document from either side. my 2 domain's setting like this: 2000 server's prefered DNS server is 2003 server's DNS server, and alter DNSserver is itself. 2003 server's prefered DNS server is itself, and alter DNSserver is 2000 sever's DNSserve. 2000 server domain is in mix level ,and 2003 server is in windows 2000native(that's ADMT tool required?). acutally before I raise 2003 sever to window2000 native mode ,I still can create trust ,but it can not be verify. show the erro message: " the trust password verification failed with error 1787: the security database on the server does not have a computer accout for this workstation trust relationship." after I raise the level to 2000 native ,then I even can't create trust? do I need to buidle a new 2003 domain since it can't be reversed? and even I rebuilde the 2003 domain, how do I resolve the computer account problem? thanks in advance!
