  1. I may have missed this one, but how do i get the registry file to run once i have edited the whole thing? i know that it cant be run and then shutdown windows, but i tried having it run in runonceEx.cmd and it still does not totally work. any ideas? Thanks!
  2. allll righty... i think i may have figured it out... i used NLite and included the .reg files as .ini files and had NLite import them into the install... think that will screw something up? also if i do this will it work? C:\XPSP2\$OEM$\$Docs\All Users\Desktop and put those 2 links in there? 'cause $Docs is documents and settings... im wondering if creating the all users and Desktop will just let me put them in there... i'll try what you have too and see how it goes... almost time to call it a day so i'll do what i can tomorrow and monday and go from there thanks!
  3. hey all, I have this in my cmdlines.txt [COMMANDS] "REGEDIT32.EXE /S finalreg.reg" ".\$1\install\Desktop\runall.bat" "RunOnceEx.cmd" and the RunOnceEx.cmd works but the rest of the stuff will not work. the finalreg.reg is the registry_tweaks.reg file modified for me. and here is what i have in the runall.bat regedit /s deployments.reg regedit /s homepage.reg copy deployments.exe c:\windows\ copy "WNEC Admin Sys.lnk" "c:\documents and settings\all users\desktop\" copy yogi.ico c:\windows\ copy wfc.ico c:\windows\ copy "Workforce Central.lnk" "c:\documents and settings\all users\desktop\" and ideas? Thanks!
  4. ooh ooh! thanks Mchart... found the following... need to run qchain.exe @echo off setlocal set PATHTOFIXES=some path %PATHTOFIXES%\Q123456_w2k_sp2_x86.exe -z -m %PATHTOFIXES%\Q123321_w2k_sp2_x86.exe -z -m %PATHTOFIXES%\Q123789_w2k_sp2_x86.exe -z -m %PATHTOFIXES%\qchain.exe according to microsoft, QChain.exe cleans the Pending File Rename Operations key in the registry to make sure that only the latest version of a file is installed after the computer is restarted. this is the page too... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q296861 i'll see how this goes tomorrow... so what i'll have to do is do SP2 and then run this batch file once im done... fun times!
  5. hmm... true true... actually i did notice one thing different when using RyanVM's tool, the Security Center's notification options were disabled. is this supposed to be this way? <paging Dr RyanVM> <paging Dr RyanVM> <paging Dr RyanVM> or mebe Bueller? Bueller?
  6. need a chat option on this board.. hehe... so is there a way to batch all of the updates together so that it runs one at a time? all i really wanted was a way to include the hotfixes into the sp2.exe file...
  7. Thanks for the help all... what i ended up doing was using RyanVM's package and putting it on an XPSP2 CD. then from that i "upgraded" a PC with it and it seemed to work, PS(it was missing 2 of the updates) but that worked. the problem with the individual updates is that it always asks to reboot or whatever and with 20 updates after you do SP2 its kind of a pain. It seemed to work fine... After i did the first run-through i i /include ed the newer updates on the CD that i created using RyanVM's stuff... can that cause a problem? thanks!
  8. What i was looking for tho was an update to the installation file, not the CD. i have a lot of installs of windows XP SP1 and i want to be able to just run the SP2 installer and update the desktop with SP2 and the recent updates... is that possible? or do i just use the XPSP2CD?
  9. i was looking around and might have missed it but i was looking for a way to include updates in the XP2 installer file so that on my existing systems i would be able to just install the update(s) once instead of downloading them all on each system or using the windows updates. any ideas or did i just miss the post? thanks
  10. under Custom visual settings, it might be nice to have this: ;----- ;----- Custom Visual Settings ;----- ;----- 0 - Let Windows Decide ;----- 1 - Adjust for Best Appearance(All On)(Comment out everything after first HKEY) ;----- 2 - Adjust for Best Performance(All Off)(Comment out everything after first HKEY) ;----- 3 - Custom (make changes below) ;----- just so people know what the settings are for the first HKEY
