  1. Windows XP SP2 current on updates until this last Black Tuesday batch causing all the grief. Office 2003 Pro current on all updates Nothing installed or updated on computer since Office applications last successful run Now, out of the blue, all applications from Office error when calling them up. The error is: MS Office [Application Name, i.e. Word, Excel, etc] cannot install the necessary files due to windows installer error 1634. Component not used on this computer" Then when closing the error popup, another popup opens saying: "Microsoft Office [Application Name, i.e. Word, Excel, etc] has not been installed for this user. Please run setup to install application." There is only one user account on this computer which has complete admin privileges. As stated at the beginning, since the last time any of the Office Apps ran successfully, nothing has been installed or updated on this computer. Any ideas? Regards,
  2. That's the way I figured it to be... No one seems to really know that I have asked. If it does then that is broken because... well for example.... I have .NET Framework v3.0 installed and WUD is acknowledging that. However, WUD tells me that I do not have .NET framework v1.1 and V2.0 or any of v1.1 or v2.0's updates installed. I also have the latest version of Windows Media Player installed and WUD acknowledges that but WUD is also telling me that I do not have any of the previous versions of updates installed prior to the installed latest version. Well DUH! And the BIG one... WUD tells me that I do not have SP2 for XP installed even though I am running a genuine installation of XP-SP2. Now, I know what I have installed and what I don't and what I need and what I don't. But what about the poor person that doesn't know these things about their systems and might pick this program up and rely on the above Blue/Black color scheme to lead them through the process? Regards P.S.... That is if the Blue/Black Color Scheme means what is installed and what isn't.... If it doesn't then I am wrong in my views on this. I guess this is what happens when you can't get information on why some updates are in blue and some are in black... you just have to guess your way through it.
  3. This sound like a winner. Let me/us know when you are ready. Well, I guess that means I won't be pursuing a commercial version. Regards,
  4. Wow, imagine that…. There are software providers out there that have the common courtesy of responding to your registration request by actually allowing you to download the software that you filled out the registration request for in the first place. WHAT A NOVIL IDEA! Common Courtesy indicates Legitimacy Regards,
  5. Actually he isn't anything like "other people/companies" that require you to "register before being able to aquire” (acquire) the software. Other people/companies actually have the common courtesy of rewarding your registration by actually allowing you to acquire the software where this guy seems to be playing some kind of devious game. Doesn't say much for the possibilities of becoming a paid customer if you can't even get this guy to have the common courtesy to respond to his own required UN/PW request form submittals. And I'm not the only one that seems to be seeing it this way from some of the threads I have seen on the news groups. IF this guy is legitimate, which all indications seems to point to the fact that he isn't, then he is only hurting the future reputation of himself and his product by playing these silly discourteous games with people that presented the good faith, good will interest in his product in the first place. Regards,
  6. Well, I submitted a properly formatted request (as per supplied instructions) jumped through all the silly little hoops and held my mouth just right on April 6th, two weeks thereafter and 3 weeks after that again and still I have not been afforded the simple common courtesy of even a message telling me to go screw myself much less the promised "Username & Password needed to access the download page". I read on some newsgroups, after sending this guy my name and email address, that this is a fake setup that collects names and email addresses for whatever purposes I do not know. All I know is that since I have been waiting since April 6 and have not been afforded the common courtesy of anything from this guy, I think the Newsgroup Warnings must hold water.
  7. Well, the "EXAM" specifically says: "After completing the required fields, you must copy and paste the entire FORM.TXT document into the top of the body of your email request." Ever get the idea that some demented twisted brain out there is laughing its a** off at all of us who have followed the rules of the "EXAM" but keep getting a failing grade without any indication as to which parts of the "EXAM" we failed? You showed in your example that you following the rules in a method any normal person would follow by any normal interpretation of the rules does not work. This is a twisted game I don't have time to play..... Hopefully someone else will come up with a program to help people Slipstream the M$ fixes into their OS disks without all this cryptic game playing to go through. I did some searching around the web to see if there were any more programs like this available without the game playing. Seems to be some people working on it. Hopefully when they get a product out there, we can get our hands on it without all this silly game playing. PPC
  8. Hey, at least you got a reply even if it was a rejection for some unknown and never to be spoken in public places reason. That's more than they have been nice enough to do to me. Maybe I messed up the 'test' so bad that I didn't rate a reply even though I, like you, filled it out to best adhere to one of the many ways one could read into the rules and regulations. The last message on this thread suggests filling it out to the many ways that it can be read to mean. That way, we might get lucky and get one way right. I just don't understand why, if you fail the 'test', why they can't just be nice enough to tell you exactly what you did wrong instead of all this secrecy. What did David call it..... COURTESY! I thought M$ took the cake with their stupid activation scheme but I think this one is giving M$ a run for the money when it comes to all this crazy do this and do that, pass this test and jump that bar while holding one hand behind you back and rubbing your tummy type of stupid getting the right to use much less get your hands on the package scheme. At least M$ will tell you up front exactly why you didn't pass the stupid little exam so you know exactly where to put your attention next time take the exam. Here, it seems all you get is: --> one, or more, of the following reasons: - Incomplete Personal Information - Incorrect order of request text: Personal Information, "I agree" Statement, EULA - Unacceptable email address - Unacceptable Personal Information Now, that really tells you a hell of a lot about what you supposed to have done wrong on your little exam.
